If you understand what you are getting when you order these, they are a very good deal for rough stock. I actually resawed my 2" X 2" cherry as 3/8" thick slats for a Mission style table. Worked really well for that.

I ordered Maple turning blanks to make a Sea Creatures Chess Set for my nephew. This product works great for small delicate scroll saw projects. Ordering on line is fast and easy.

I had order four different types of the turning blocks and one of them had a 1/4" gouge dpown the length of the block which minimized the finished diameter of the turning. I wasn't too happy about that at all! The balance of the order was OK.

The maple wood is beautiful, and no doubt very appropriate for turning as intended.
However, if one expects a nice 2 x 2 piece of maple, the precision and trim leave a lot to be desired. Expect to need to trim it to 1 3/4 square.
Editor's note: Please note that all turning stock is rough sawn cut and is not planed as it is intended to be turned on a lathe.

I have been using Rockler's maple and walnut turning stock to make end grain cutting boards for friends and family. The borders are purpleheart and the boards are cured with a blend of beeswax and mineral oil.

I purchased the 2 by 2 by 18 inch maple for its low cost. I am using it to make handles for metal spinning tools. The first one turned very nicely and took stain very well.

I ordered the 18" 3" x 3" Walnut turning blank and recently used a 2"x3"x3" portion--wood is well cured and in excellent shape, can't wait to get the time to use the rest!
I ordered the 18" 3" x 3" Cherry and it arrived in excellent shape--still not committed to what it will be but it certainly has a great deal of potential!

2 x 2 is really 1 7/8 x 1 7/8. Had to change plans to use.
Editor's note: As noted in this offering, sizes listed are approximate.

Product was OK, but I was disappointed that the blank was not a full 2"x2" but slightly undersized. This had an impact on the design of the items I intended to turn from it.

I have used the 18" maple blanks to make batons. They turn extremely well and look wonderful. I will definitely buy them again.
