I have recently bought this Shinto Rasp and it has proven its self worthy. This tool is well worth the money. Unlike other rasps that get clogged with wood shavings, the Shinto rasp NEVER gets clogged. Think of it as a band saw blade that has teeth on both sides one fine and one course and shaped sort like a honeycomb. When you want to switch from coarse to fine the rasp can easily become detached from the handle and switched around. It works great for shaping legs that are a Queen Ann style furniture, something you cannot turn on a Lathe but still needs to be round. The Shinto rasp has definitely earned a spot in my shop.

I have had one of these Shinto rasps in my tool collection for 8-10 years now. Just as many specialized tools have a unique application, when you need to remove material rapidly, it is fantastic as it does not clog up as an ordinary wood rasp would. Leather glove hand protection is helpful as the teeth are very sharp and it is sometimes helpful to hold the front of the blade for finer work! It is a great tool!
