Brown Ebony Turning Blanks

Brown Ebony features dark chocolate brown tones with a pleasing grain pattern. It has characteristics similar to Black ebony, but is less prone to “checking.” It works well, is very stable, will not change color over time and polishes very nicely. Edge-grain portions have an incredible 3-D figure. These turning blanks are available in an assortment of sizes for bowls, platters, carvings, bottle stoppers, chess pieces, tool handles, table legs, spindles, finials, candlesticks and whatever else your imagination can conjure up!

• Native to: South America, particularly Argentina.
• Color: Varying shades of dark brown.
• Texture: Very fine. Not overly oily.
• Grain: Straight or slightly interlocking. Sometimes curly.
• Allergies: Sawdust may cause a skin reaction.
• Working Properties: Brown Ebony is very hard, and can be difficult to work. Keep tools very sharp. Turns well. Glues well. Cuts easily. Pilot holes are recommended when screwing. Holds finish well, though its polishing properties may render finish unnecessary.
• Polish: Takes an excellent polish.
• Natural Durability: Heartwood is very durable. Resists termite attack very well.
