Overview

One router bit change with the Musclechuck™ will have woodworkers wondering why this ingenious chuck wasn't invented along with the router. With just a half-turn of a hex wrench, router bits pop in and out with absolute ease. No more rummaging around for the right wrenches, or skinning your knuckles on the router housing. In fact, you don't even have to use the collet lock - ideal for table- or CNC-mounted routers. Not only that, but the extra reach afforded by the Musclechuck allows you to perform above-table router bit changes in seconds. Unlike many other quick-change router chucks, this one doesn't rely on a cam, so it won't damage the router bit shank, and there's n orisk of loosening over time. Available in two types for different groups of routers (see Tech Specs).

Tech Spec

Technical Details:

  • Easy installation: Musclechuck threads directly onto your router's existing spindle.
  • The Musclechuck accepts 1/2" shanks out of the box, and a 1/4" reducer(44454) is available for 1/4" shanks.
  • Chuck adds approximately 1/2" to the length of your router spindle, which makes more cutting length available when the router is mounted in a table.
  • Use an ordinary 4mm or 5/32 in hex wrench(not included) to secure the bits. A ball-ended hex wrench makes for easy above-table bit changes, and a T-handled model is ideal.
  • Type 1 Musclechuck fits Porter Cable 630, 690, 691, 693, 890, 7518, 7519, 7536,7537, 7538, 7539 only.
  • Type 4 Musclechuck fits Bosch 1613 AEVS, 1617 EVS, 1618 EVS, 1619 EVS,1400E, GOF2000, Makita 3612C.

Presto change

ron Posted April 28, 2014
This makes changing bits so much faster and with a lot less effort. I got a 4mm Bondhus T handle allen wrench just for use with the musclechuck. I have read reports of vibration and I have not seen any issues with this on my CNC router. I am considering buying a few more for my hand held routers. It eliminates the sticky bit syndrome when removing bits from a conventional collet.

The only drawback is the price. It seems a bit pricey but for the CNC it was well worth the money. If one changes bits frequently, as I do on the CNC router, then I recommend the Musclechuck. Make sure you get the one to fit your router as there are different models available.

As leader of the worlds largest woodworking forum I test many products and can assure you that the Musclechuck is a great advantage over all other methods of attaching bits to your router. No more trying to hold two wrenches or depress a button while turning a wrench to change your bit. You do not even need to lock the routers shaft for bit changes. With 4 times the gripping power of the factory collet and nut the Musclechuck requires only one half turn of the 4 mm Allen wrench to secure or release the bit. I now have 11 Musclechucks fitted to most of my routers. Reduce your set up time with a Musclechuck!
