Ready2Rout Electronic Fence Positioner

With computer-controlled precision, repeatable fence settings stored in memory, a pre-installed suite of apps, and many more to come, this first-ever electronic router fence ushers the humble router table into the "smart" era. Woodworkers used to endlessly tapping and bumping their fences will appreciate the ease and simplicity of pressing only a few buttons to dial in a setting. Simply zero out the fence, and every adjustment afterwards is accomplished with the onboard touch-screen interface and a precision lead screw with anti-backlash. Three ''apps'' are included for box joints, dadoes, half-blind dovetails, plus step-and-repeat functions such as those for fluted columns and beadboard. The fence works without a computer attached, but a USB port on the back allows you to easily install additional apps and update software. Made in USA.

  • More apps will be available in the future to further enhance the versatility of your Ready2Rout!
  • Accurate to within 0.001-inch.
  • Perfect repeatability for joinery such as dadoes, half-blind dovetails and box joints, andfor decorative elements such as flutes.
  • A stroke of the touch screen commands the fence to move to its next position - perfect for step-and-repeat operations.
  • To space and cut box joints, simply enter the diameter of your bit and the width of your workpiece and the system automatically positions the fence for the cuts.
  • Touch screen can be used to indicate the router bit width, and to convert to metric decimals or fractions. For example, you can use a 1/4-inch bit to rout a 12mm dado without complicated calculations or measurements.
  • Firmware updates are made via USB port on the rear of the fence
  • Tight-tolerance lead screw precisely moves the fence in relation to the bit.
  • Fence travels up to 9 ¾'' without repositioning the rail.
  • Up to six fence positions can be saved in the system's memory so you can come back later and repeat the operations.
  • Note: The Ready2Rout Fence does not control router bit height. The bit height is set in the conventional manner.
  • Made in the USA
  • 1 year warranty

Touch Plate

To use the Touch Plate, plug one end into the controller, attach the magnet to the collet, and lower the router bit onto the touch plate. Constructed of durable metal and precision-machined for accuracy.

Great Design and Quality Made

I purchased both the Ready2Rout and later the Ready2Lift from Rockler. I have installed them on a Bench Dog cast iron router table. Note that the Ready2Lift comes in two size top plates - one fits Bench Dog - the other first most other brands of router tables tops (be sure to check dimensitons before you order).

I did have one issue at first - since the items were ordered separately the Ready2Rout did not have the correct firmware to talk to the Ready2Lift. I contacted Next Wave Automation (manufacturer) and they provided an updated firmware by e-mail that solved the problem. Watch for this if you order the units separately. I found their support to be very responsive.

With the correct firmware all seems to function exactly as expected. The user interface is simple to understand and allows quick and precise calibration of the position of the fence and the lift. I like being able to work in either inches or mm, as I now mostly work metric. The speed of the lift and the fence a just about right - you do not need to crank the lift up and down manually to change bits, etc.

The Ready2Rout allows you to accurately make cuts without having specific bits - want a 18.2mm dado using a 1/2" router bit - no problem, and no computations required on your part.

Overall so far I am very impressed with the whole set-up. I think this is the "wave" of the future. More and more machines are going to borrowing from the CNC world for digital control and measurement.

There are a couple of enhancements I would like to see. First, they should offer more rings for the lift opening, including a soft material insert that can be cut to bit size. Also - I wish they offered a single segment fence. The fence that is supplied is made of of three segments that need to be spliced. I suspect this may be for ease of packing and shipping, but it is less than optimal.

Overall, for a version 1.0 product, this seems very well designed and well made. Clearly these components, combined with the cast iron table, are perhaps the most expensive router table set up that is commercially available, but this is also taking the router table into a new level of accuracy and ease of use for complicated tasks.

Great product

We'll first off I have to say I was hesitant to buy this, $600 plus the calibration plate comes out to be like $100... I have been using incra's system and have the wonder fence system. I love Incra because of its accuracy. So to pay $700 for another router fence took some convincing and decided to get it as my Christmas gift to myself. I have to say it is one of the best woodworking tools I have purchased. The accuracy and repeatability is amazing just as accurate as the Incra's system but fully automated. I upgraded the fence using the long 36" mag rail sold by Rockler. This allowed me to adapt my wonder fence from Incra's with the right angle fence. This allows me to not have to have my setup parallel to mitre chanel. Great for doing the box joints and dovetails.. There is good future to this system and I am definitely looking forward to their updates and their future products.

Nice Fence

Like most woodworkers, I was skeptical about this tool considering cost and what it could do. After researching I started to realize that this would make setting the bit distance basically a non-issue. It would also make doing ANYTHING with a straight bit a piece of cake. Just think about how tedious it can be to set the bit distance from the fence. Not with this thing, Dados and rabbets and I don’t even have to make a test cut… There are other things - like the fact that I can now get rid of my home made box joint jig, my dovetail jig, fluting jig, and even the “Antique” fence on my router table. I find myself not even needing a hand held router very much for other than round-overs or chamfers.

As for the downsides, well, there’s no switch which is kind of weird and I thought the way you did the updates was strange, but after doing it once I found it was pretty easy. I wish they would have made the fence a standard two piece, as I cannot get a panel raising bit into it, though with some thought it seems pretty simple to add something to the face of the fence. I haven’t figured out how to do through dovetails yet.

Overall, I like the fence, I can’t wait to see what else they can come up with….
