Woodturning Techniques - with Julian Willett
Overview: "Woodturning Techniques Class is based on improving the application and understanding of the most effective way to cut wood on a lathe. This European woodturning style is hundreds of years old and based on the push cut. However, it is modified to work with modern machinery, fewer tools, and simpler grinds. The tools used in this class are; Bowl Gouges, Spindle Gouge, Spindle Roughing Gouge, Bedan, Beading and Parting Tools, and the Skew. Sharpening of woodturning tools will also be taught with opportunity to practice as well. Students are encouraged to bring thier own tools, but we have plenty here if you need. All wood is included in the tuition. Other than the purchase of your lathe, there's no better investment than being taught these time-proven techniques. Beginner to Intermediate

Woodworking 101 - with Tracy Gray
Overview: For the first timer or as a refresher, this two-session course begins with a discussion of wood, woodworking technology, machine use, and shop safety. You will be building a small table out of hardwood and the first steps will be to select the lumber and prepare for "squaring it up". You will learn how to use the jointer to flatten a face and straighten an edge. You will learn about planning to thickness with a planer and ripping lumber to width with a table saw. You will also cut lumber to length with a motorized miter saw and glue up pieces for a top and legs. In the second day you will finish dimensioning your table parts and assemble with a pocket hole jig system. Routing edges and sanding will round out the day to complete the table. An excellent class to get into woodworking or refresh your shop skills.
