Finishing Techniques - with Dave Fleming  
Overview:
One of the most important and often overlooked aspects of woodworking is how to apply a quality finish. It is the finish that celebrates the work that has gone into creating any woodworking project. Learn how to create a finish that both protects and enhances your piece. The class will focus on aspects such as surface preparation, application of stain, and the use of topcoats, including sprayed finishes.  All materials are included. Student needs to bring a pair of safety glasses.

Carving the "Rockler Woodworker"  Session 4 - with Dave Stetson 
Overview:
This class promises to be a great one. The class will be instructed by Dave Stetson a nationally acclaimed carver. The student will learn to carve and finish a 3 dimensional caricature of your average Rockler Woodworker. The class will meet for 4 evenings over a 2 week period. Class time will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The student will be provided a carving blank, but will be responsible for supplying their own carving tools. Check with the store for a list of recommended tools. don't miss this opportunity to learn to carve under the instruction of one of the area's foremost carvers.

Introduction to Turning - with Dave Duca
Overview: This is the class for the first time turner or anyone with limited experience in turning. The student will be introduced to the lathe and many of the common tools used in wood turning. turning between centers including the proper use of a variety of turning tools. The student will learn a variety of techniques in turning between centers including sharpening tools. Safety will be a strong emphasis. All materials are included. Student needs to bring their own eye protection. Safety shield is recommended.

Basic Millwork: Making a Cutting Board - with Dave Fleming
Overview:  In this 6 hour class the student will learn the use a variety of power tools from the jointer to the router table as they take a piece of rough stock to finished cutting board. Learn how to take rough lumber to smooth straight boards through the use of a jointer, thickness planer and table saw. Then the student will glue up and shape the cutting board with tools like the Bandsaw and Router table . All of this in two 3 hour sessions with a break for lunch. Student need to provide safety glasses and hearing protection.

Tuning up and using Hand Planes- with Dave Fleming
Overview:  
In this modern world of whining and growling power tools Hand planes are often relegated to the shelf or to occasionally clean up a rough edge. Because of our reliance on power tools we may have never taken the time to understand how planes work and more importantly how well they can work. If this sounds like you, this is the class for you. The class will cover the basics: Setting up the plane; Sharpening; Tuning and using the plane for edge jointing, planning end grain and surfacing. Students must bring one or more hand planes to the class. Students are required to bring their own safety eyewear, hearing protection not needed!

Making Band Sawn Boxes - with Frank Brady
Overview:
 Learn how to make one of kind gift boxes cut with a standard Bandsaw. The class takes you through all of the steps from design  and layout through cutting and sanding using a band saw and Spindle Sander to finishing and flocking. Each student will work on a box of their own. Class includes all materials. Student must provide safety wear glasses and hearing protection.

Building Plantation Shutters- with Pat Jones
Overview:
jigs and other assembly devises that made for a demanding and challenging process. With the  introduction of the Rockler Shutter system much of this has changed. Most woodworkers with modestly outfitted shops can produce shutters that rival custom made shutters at a fraction of the cost. Each student will learn all of the steps necessary to design and build plantation shutters. The student will walk away with a shutter that they have built. Shutter making materials are included. Student will need to provide their own Rockler Shutter Template kit as well as a pair of safety glasses.

Turning Acrylic Pens- with Ed Pabst
Overview:  This class is designed for the pen turner that is ready for the next step in their craft. Acrylics open a up a wide variety of options and  colors available to the pen turner. There are some tricks to turning acrylics successfully. This class will cover these techniques to assure a more reliable positive result. All materials are included. Student needs to bring a pair of safety glasses.
