Router Dovetail Machines, with David Tilson

Date: May 30, 2015

Time: 1pm - 5pm

Overview: If you’ve just gotten a new dovetail machine, or if you’re tired of running through your entire scrap pile making test cuts and still not getting a tight-fitting joint, this is the class for you. You’ll get step-by-step guidance through the entire process using either the Rockler or the Porter Cable 4200-series dovetail machine, from preparing the project materials to fine-tuning the final fit of the dovetail joint, all while learning how to cut dovetails safely and with your own tools!  Advance reservations required.  Students must bring their own safety glasses, hearing protection, router, and dovetail machine with bits (Rockler or Porter Cable 4200 series only, please). A very limited number of routers and dovetail machines are available for loan during the class, but only by prior arrangement.

Skill Level: Beginner - Intermediate

Class Fee: $60

Router Basics, with Don Chafey

Date: June 6, 2015

Time: 1pm - 5pm

Overview: If you want to expand your woodworking repertoire, the router is the tool to master.  This class covers everything from how to choose the best router for the job to cutting and milling operations with handheld and table-mounted routers.  Students will complete a project by pattern routing, making simple inlays, and forming edges. Students should bring their own routers with ¼" collets (plunge routers preferable).  A very limited number of routers are available for students who cannot bring their own router; reservations must be made in advance.  Students must also bring their own safety glasses and hearing protection.  Advance reservations are required.

Skill Level: Beginner

Class Fee: $65

Topics include lathes (features and safe operation), woodturning tools, simple sharpening, and turning between centers, with emphasis on safety and developing proper cutting technique.  Advance reservations required. Students must bring their own safety glasses and turning tools.  Tool rental will be available.

Sharpening, with David Tilson

Date: June 20, 2015

Time: 1pm - 5pm

Also, students must bring their own safety glasses.
