7/2/2016 Coping Made Simple - 11AM
With the Rockler Coping Sled making specialty joints couldn’t be any simpler. This demo will quickly show how easy it is to make quality looking woodworking joints.

7/9/2016 Wood Turning Techniques - 11AM
This Demo will primarily be focused on turning small wooden boxes using the 2x2x6 walnut featured in the flyer. We will also be turning pens as time permits.

7/16/2016 Router Table Techniques - 11AM
This demo will focus around the large Box Joint Jig and projects that can be made easily with it on a router Table.

7/23/2016 Table Saw Techniques - 11AM
Demonstration will cover all the benefits and features of after-market miter gauges such as the Incra and also some of the safety accessories that make the operation of a table saw more enjoyable.

7/30/2016 Wood Finishing Techniques - 11AM
Basic Finishing techniques using HVLP systems and EF Finishes. Cover advantages and disadvantages of sprayers of different price ranges.

8/6/2016 Wood Turning Techniques - 11AM
Focus will be on the simplicity of turning handles for multiple kits Rockler offers.

8/13/2016 Drawer Building - 11AM
This demo will focus on the construction of drawers using the dovetail jig to give the look of fine craftsmanship. There will also be discussion of all the different jigs available for hardware installation.

8/20/2016 Triton Work Center - 11AM
Will focus primarily on the Work Center but will also cover other Triton Tools.

8/27/2016 Sign Making - 11AM
This demonstration will show how simple the set up and routing of signs can be using Rockler sign making Kits and a compact plunge router.



 
Pasadena Woodworking Classes and Woodworking Workshops

Hand Tools II: Dovetails, with David Tilson

Date:  July 2 & 3, 2016

Time:  1pm - 4pm

Overview:  Learn the techniques for creating beautiful hand-cut joinery, including dovetails.  This two-session course builds on the skills learned in Hand Tool Basics, moving into the use of hand saws, chisel skills, and more!  Advance reservations required.

Basic Shop Safety, with Don Chafey

Date:  July 9, 2016

Time:  1pm - 5pm

Overview:   Learn hands-on how to work safely in the woodshop.  In this class, geared to beginning and intermediate woodworkers, students will learn how to safely operate the table saw, bandsaw, drill press, router table, thickness planer, and miter saw.  Students will also learn the importance of dust collection and air purification.  Advance reservations required.

Router Basics, with Don Chafey

Date:  July 30, 2016

Time:  1pm - 5pm

Overview:   If you want to expand your woodworking repertoire, the router is the tool to master.  This class covers everything from how to choose the best router for the job to cutting and milling operations with handheld and table-mounted routers.  Students will complete a project by pattern routing, making simple inlays, and forming edges.  Advance reservations required.

Sharpening, with David Tilson

Date:  August 6, 2016

Time:  1pm - 4:30pm

Overview:   In this class you’ll learn how to sharpen common woodworking tools using methods such as water- and oilstones, bench grinders, the Tormek and Work Sharp grinding systems, and more.  Topics include bevel angles, secondary bevels (micro bevels) and hollow grinds; polishing compounds, rust removal & prevention, and diamond stones.  Advance reservations required.

Turning Wood Pens, with Pete Carta

Date:  August 13, 2016

Time:  1pm - 5pm

Overview:   Learn the tricks to turning your own wooden pens from a master pen turner.  Students will 7mm pens from basic preparation right through finishing and assembly, with an emphasis on safety.  No prior woodturning experience is required!

Finishing Basics, with David Tilson

Date:  August 20, 2016

Time:  1pm - 4:30pm

Overview:   Take the fear out of finishing! This class teaches everything you need to know to strip off an old finish and then apply the perfect finish to just about any woodworking project. Topics include surface preparation and sanding; staining and dyeing; using sealers, oil-base and waterborne varnishes; and much more. Having completed this class, students will have a firm understanding of the basic types of wood finishes and how and why each is used.  Advance reservations required.

Overview:   This class builds on the skills and knowledge developed in our Introduction to the Lathe class.  Students will learn about faceplate turning, bowl chucks and accessories; scrapers and specialty hollowing tools; and will develop cross-grain faceplate turning skills while turning an open-form bowl.  Advance reservations required.

Router Dovetail Machines, with David Tilson

Date:  September 24, 2016

Time:  1pm - 5pm

Overview:   If you’ve just gotten a new dovetail machine, or if you’re tired of running through your entire scrap pile making test cuts and still not getting a tight-fitting joint, this is the class for you. You’ll get step-by-step guidance through the entire process using either the Rockler or the Porter Cable 4200-series dovetail machine, from preparing the project materials to fine-tuning the final fit of the dovetail joint, all while learning how to cut dovetails safely and with your own tools!  Advance reservations required.
