Torrance Woodworking Classes and Workshops

Secrets To A Fine Finish with Lou Barcelo

Date: June 13th, June 20th,  July 11th, & July 18th, 2015

Time: 1pm - 4pm

Overview: Take the fear out of finishing and learn the secrets to a fine finish. You will learn how to obtain repeatable, successful finishes on different species of wood. Starting with proper stock preparation then learn the secrets to using oils, water based finishes and spray lacquer. Color woods using stains, dyes and toners and learn about grain / pore filling and sanding sealers. Class is limited to 6 students and is hands on, meets on four Saturdays and homework will be given.

Skill Level: Beginner

Class Fee: $100 + Materials



 

Turning Lidded Boxes with Steve Abshear

Date: August 17, 2015

Time: 1pm - 4pm

Overview: In this class you will learn how to make a turned box with a fitted lid from dry hardwood.  You will also learn how to make and use a jamb chuck to finish the top and bottom of the turned box.

Eye protection is a must so bring your safety glasses or face shield.

Tools you will need: 3/8" spindle gouge, 1/2" round nose scraper, a parting tool and a roughing gouge (if you have one).  A bedan tool would also be helpful (if you have one).  You may also bring any other tools that you think might be appropriate.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Class Fee: $50
