Intro to Hand Tools

Date: January 30, 2016

Time: 9am -11am

Overview: Hand tools are making a comeback!  They’re much quieter and easier to use, especially in the small shop.  You’ll learn all about the different hand tools available, and when and where to use them.  We will cover marking and measuring, chisels, hand planes, and hand saws.  You’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for what hand tools can do!

Skill Level: Beginner

Cutting Dovetails on the Rockler Complete Dovetail Jig

Date: February 2, 2016

Time: 5pm - 8pm

Overview: The Rockler Jig is the most versatile of the available dovetail jigs.  Find out how easy it is to cut dovetails and adjust the jig for a perfect fit!  If you have a Rockler jig, bring it to class along with your router and bits.  We’ll also have a jig for use if you don’t have one yet.  Everyone will get hands on experience cutting through and half blind dovetails.  If you’re thinking of getting a Rockler Dovetail Jig, it’s the perfect way to test drive the jig!

Intro to Cabinet Hardware

Overview: Starting a new cabinet project or just wanting to start adding Euro hinges to your projects?  This class will cover the ins and outs of cabinet hinges and drawer slides.

Chair Caning

Overview: Have a chair that needs repair?  Bring it to this class!  Whether your chair is made of  hand woven or pre-woven cane, we will take you step by step through repairing your caned chair.

Introduction to Portable Power Tools

Date: February 13, 2016

Time: 9am - 1pm

Overview: New to woodworking, or want a refresher course in woodworking power tools? This class is for you.  You’ll cover the basics of each tool in the shop, using each to build a beautiful weather station for your home.

Pocket Hole Joinery

Overview: Learn the ins and outs of pocket hole joinery.  Students will leave the knowledge needed to begin utilizing pocket hole joinery in their upcoming projects.

Wood Lathe 101

Overview: The lathe is becoming one of the most popular machines to have in workshop.  You will learn setup, tool selection, and material holding.  Best of all, you’ll be able to get hands on experience by making your very own pizza cutter!

Pen Turning

Overview: Wooden pens are wonderful to write with and make unique gifts.  Learn all of the steps of pen turning as you turn your own pen and pencil set!

Intro to CNC

Date: February 27, 2016

Time: 9am - 11am

Overview: Learn the basics of CNC technology for the home shop in this two hour lecture style class.  Students will leave with a guide to CNCs, a sample project run during the class, and the basic understanding of what a CNC can do for their shop.
