Classes and Workshops

Segmented Bowls Session 1 with Bob Brancheau

Date: April 4, 2015

Time: 10am - 4pm

Overview: This class will cover basic segmented bowl construction.  Prerequisites are experience in using a table saw or a compound miter saw for cross cutting.  You will learn the theory and techniques for constructing very accurate segmented rings.  You will use the table saw as the primary cutting tool supplemented with a sliding miter table, a disc sander and some shop made jigs.  You will produce components and glue up the rings that will make up the bowl, you will be expected to do some home shop work before the follow-up class.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Class Fee: $75

 

Turning a Set of Napkin Rings with Kim Muthersbough

Date: April 9, 2015

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Overview: Students will learn how to spindle turn a bead, bore a hole on the lathe, and use different embellishment techniques as they turn and decorate a set of napkin rings. This is a beginner level spindle turning class. Students are not required to furnish anything, but they are welcome to bring any of their own tools or personal safety equipment that they would like to use.

Segmented Bowls Session 2 with Bob Brancheau

Date: April 11, 2015

Time: 10am - 4pm

Overview: In this follow-up class, you will learn to make a simple feature ring to combine with the rings made in the previous session.  You will be shown how to properly stack the rings for the final glue up.  The instructor will then show the proper techniques for turning the finished segmented bowl.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Class Fee: $75

 

Table Saw 101 with Bob Brancheau

Date: April 14, 2015

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Overview: Learn the differences between the various models of table saws that are currently on the market.  Learn how to check and adjust the various components and accessories for your saw.  We will focus on safely making the basic rip cut, crosscut and angled cuts.  Bring your questions and current issues.

Skill Level: Beginner

Bandsaw 101 with Bob Brancheau

Date: April 16, 2015

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Overview: Learn how to make your band saw do what it should in an accurate and safe manner.  We will discuss each component of the band saw and many of its variations.  You will leave this class understanding how to safely change and align the blade, how to choose the correct blade for each project, and how to conquer the dreaded "drift".  Bring your questions and current issues.

Making a Cheese Board with Bob Brancheau

Date: April 18, 2015

Time: 10am - 4pm

Overview: Students will learn how to transfer patterns onto wood, make perimeter cuts with a scroll saw, and edge rout while making a simple cheese board.  This beginner level class will help provide confidence to the student, so he/she can continue to take on more challenging projects. Students are not required to furnish anything, but they are welcome to bring any of their  personal safety equipment that they would like to use.

Turning Honey Dippers & Bottle Stoppers with Jay Hakerem

Date: April 21, 2015

Turning a Triangular Handle with Kim Muthersbough

Date: April 23, 2015

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Overview: Students will learn how to lay out and turn a triangular handle for a screwdriver. This is an intermediate level spindle turning class and prior experience with spindle turning is needed as the process will involve making interrupted cuts. Students are not required to furnish anything, but they are welcome to bring any of their own tools or personal safety equipment that they would like to use.

Making Signs using Rockler Interlock Sign Kits with Jim Beck

Date: April 25, 2015

Time: 10am - 2pm

Overview: In this class students will learn to use guide bushings and templates in conjunction with a plunge router in order to produce custom signs.  Students should have a prior experience using a plunge router before taking this intermediate level class.  Students are not required to furnish anything, but they are welcome to bring any of their own  personal safety equipment that they would like to use.

Skill Level: Intermediate
