Lathe Tool Fundamentals with Chuck Myers

Date:  July 10, 2016

Time:  11am - 2pm

Overview:   Successful turning begins with the tools used.  Many turning tasks can be accomplished with a variety of tools, but once a tool has been selected for a particular task, its configuration, sharpness, and presentation to the wood can make a huge difference in the results achieved.  In this class you'll learn about a wide range of the more commonly used lathe tools, how different grinds can be used to make them more appropriate for particular applications, how to keep them sharp, and how to present them to the work for optimal results.  Due to the hands-on nature of the class and the number of available lathes, class size is limited to three.  Participants are encouraged to bring a few of their own tools to tune and use during the class.  All students must pre-register by contacting the Pittsburgh Rockler Store @ (412) 364-7751.  Class is limited to 3 participants.

Skill Level:  Beginner - Intermediate

If this sounds a little like you , this class will provide all you'll need to  jumpstart your pen making . Not only does this cover tool use and process, it provides useful tricks and techniques gleaned from years of pen turning experience, supervised hands on practice, and a completed pen to take home at the end of the day. Class size is limited to three due to lathe availability, so reserve you slot early if you want top attend.
