Review 1 of 10:
I use to think Shopsmith was the best lathe in the world until I met up with the Jet 1014VSI mini lathe, which now has become a full sized lathe. Simply put, there is not a better lathe in this class anywhere
else. The lathe is a rock solid machine, it's centers are dead on center,no vibrations. It is hard to belive one can do so much with a lathe designated as a mini lathe. Let us not forget to make your purchase from Rockler, great folks that stand behind their sales 100% and also offer the best prices on this wonderful lathe.

Review 1 of 10:
Build: I had been on the market for a lathe for about 3 months and had narrowed my options to this lathe and the Rikon mini. I knew I had to choose a tool that would be durable, but still fit in my small shop. The Jet is just built solidly. Everything is made out of metal and it is as sturdy as a rock. The other lathe has some plastic components. Ease of use: Since this is my first lathe, it ablsolutely needed to be as ready to use out of the box as possible. I am not stretching the truth when I tell you that I was rounding out my first project within 30 minutes of purchase. Cons: The not so obvious con is that when the band finally goes, I may have to do some monor surgery on my lathe to replace it. But, I...

Review 1 of 2:
I bought this used, and have made numerous bowls with it. It is smooth-running and quiet.
I'd like to see a somewhat slower minimum speed, and more detents between those present. It's possible to take off the cover and modify it for just this purpose. (Look on line for instructions) Not sure I'd do this if I bought it new, though. Also, there's no handwheel, so the only way to remove a chuck is to insert a peg into the indexing hole.
I'd have to say that the 3/4 hp motor is a bit underpowered for a 12" diameter over the bed (and up to 16" with powerhead rotation, although I haven't turned anything over 11" yet). But with sharp tools and care, it's easy to get beautiful work.
Overall, I'm really happy with this lathe.

Review 1 of 38:
As with any new piece of equiptment, there was a minimal amout of adjusting, tightening, etc. that needed to be done. All in all, I was very satisfied with the product as a whole. But,there were a couple of things that I was not completely happy about in regards to this product. I had to replace the washer on the belt tensioner lock handle due to the fact that it was so weak and thin that it bent under the pressure of tightening down the handle after changing speeds. I replaced it with a heavier washer and that issue was resolved. The other issue I found to be a problem was, as others have stated, the access to change speeds is very limited. That is why I could not give this product an excellent rating. But, it is a very good product, from what I can see thus far.

Review 1 of 1:
I bought this for my Central Machinery 5 speed lathe. Bolted right up. bed and slots match up pretty well. Now, I had to use a 8-1.25mm tap to clean and finish the threads in the bed for the feet pads to fit well in there. They only went in so far and were too tight. Then, after chasing the threads I put them on with 8mm washers and lock nuts not the ones supplied. Ones supplied were way too big for the feet pads. Finish is overall pretty good and does what it is supposed to do. So, if you have an Excelsior or Central Machinery lathe 5 speed, and want a nice bed extension, this is it.

Review 1 of 2:
I have had this lathe for two weeks now. Plenty of power and torgue, the EVS is awesome. Just being able to dial-in a needed speed is great. Lathe is very heavy and solid-it makes turning so much more enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend this lathe to anyone needing to step up to a full size lathe.

Review 1 of 2:
You will enjoy this lathe, especially if you buy it when on sale. It is solid (79 pounds), made in Taiwan with excellent fit and finish. The tail stock and banjo slide smoothly on the well machined bed and lock securely via large levers. The motor has plenty of torque at low speed and moving the belt to select another of the three speed ranges is easy and fast. The high and low speeds are 3,700 and 410 respectively, according to the manual. The digital display registers 430 on my lathe at it's slowest setting. The motor is 6 amps, not 3.

Review 1 of 4:
As soon as I cut open the box, I could tell Delta spent some money/time on the final QC of this lathe. Fantastic fit/finish and plenty of power to do any job within reason. I even used some dull tools and it didn't slow this one down.
Super smooth and almost silent, my wife came out to check it out and was amazed by how quiet it was. It was such a nice unit she even gave it a spin it's amazing what nice things will do. This lathe is the smoothest machine I have in my shop.
I want to thank Delta for producing a quality product at a great price.
