Review 1 of 8:
Bought and used this product a couple of years ago. Went to buy more, label had changed, but found that it was [still] just the oil stain in mahogany. Great product.

Review 1 of 17:
I loved working with this stuff especially after struggling with the sticky mess Minwax gel stain made! I sanded lightly and applied it with a sock over a rubber glove in long even strokes. Let it dry as is-it will dry hard in less than a day. Put on extra coats if you want a darker look. The wood grain shines through beautifully, and the General Finishes Gel Urethane Top Coat gives it a golden durable varnished glow. A friend bought some too, but we discovered that the stain looks a little different on different kinds of hardwood. Experiment on the back of a cabinet door to get the color you want. I used straight Brown Mahogany, but her cabinets look like they'll need a mix of that and the Mocha to get the same dark reddish color. Thank you, Rockler!

Review 1 of 21:
I found this harder to use than some of the other reviews would suggest. I used alcohol as the solvent and wiped it on birds eye maple with a cloth. I tried it on a test piece first and the botching was very bad. I then tried mixing with blond shellac and found that to work a bit better, but it was still hard to get a good uniform cover. I don't think these problems are unique to Trans Tint but I don't see this brand as being any easier to use than other stains I have tried. I have since read that it may be better to spray on and to use water as the solvent. I don't think I will bother to try it again.

Review 1 of 9:
We recently refinished our kitchen cabinets with a high quality milk paint,(not from Rockler) that although it came out nice, we felt it wasn't going to be a durable enough finish for the long run in a kitchen. Cleaning and wipe-downs seemed to take off paint and the surfaces didn't have a nice smooth feel like a factory finished cabinet. Based on the reviews and advice from other users here, I selected this product as a clear top coat. Expensive? Perhaps, but I wanted an excellent product both in ease of application and durability. I was also very concerned about using anything that might tint or distort the color of the milk paint so a crystal clear finish was a must. This product delivered! Yes, it goes on a little milky but dries crystal clear and hard. We applied three coats to surfaces that would be handled regularly like the...

First time I've used this product and am very pleased. I like that it is waterbased and am amazed at how easy it is to use. I can't testify to durability, but I think it will be just fine. The Espresso color was a perfect match. However, use caution sanding in between finish coats, it's easy to remove color on wood edges and corners. Still, it's a great product.

Review 1 of 12:
I use as a thin wash to let original grain and some color show through. Immediately after application, I wipe it off with a dry cotton cloth for the effect. I don't measure, but use only a tiny pinch of dye in about 4 to 8 oz denatured alcohol instead of water. A few more grains of dye in water and leaving it to soak into the wood will give a more intense color. However, the water raises the grain more than does alcohol, requiring more light sanding or steel wool work. To prevent too much absorption at end grain, I first lightly seal the end grain with very thin shellac mix. Can also be mixed with wood glue so squeeze out and slight gap filling is less visible. Love this product!

Review 1 of 16:
Not only do I agree with the other reviews about what a great product this is, but it pops the grain like an oil based finish usually does, without adding a yellow color I don't want on light maple. I tried using shellac as a wash coat under it on half each of some samples, but I couldn't tell the difference after adding the GF High Performance. I found its effect on the appearance of the grain amazing.

Review 1 of 11:
Changed those old solid maple side chairs into the new black look for daughter's dining room. Paint adhered fine after only light sanding for tooth. Covered with wipe-on poly and then waxed - applied w/0000 steel wool. Looks great and the paint was the right color, went on smoothly, stuck well, and finished out nicely. Much better than the old mix-your-own from powder. I used Pitch Black.
