After using the PPS system for almost a year, I am very pleased with the performance. With my 2-stage turbine, I mostly shoot lacquer products, (alcohol-based) stains, polyurethane, and conversion varnish. However, I have also used some water-based products with great results. For me, the ability to shoot at any angle insures that I can spray every surface of a furniture piece, regardless of the orientation of its surfaces. Another advantage is that I can see the amount of product remaining in the liner, through the clear cup. This is a big advantage during bigger projects, in that it allows me to refill at an optimal point in the process. The fact that the cup (and liner) is clear also allows for easy reading of the mixing ratio guide from inside or outside of the cup. The clean-up is a breeze, since I only need to clean the gun. I...

I conjunction with the starter kit and the adapter for my Accuspray HVLP system I can place enough material in the large container to spray all the components for a bathroom vanity I recently completed. Clean-up is simple remove the unit from the gun unscrew the lid pull out the liner and dispose of it by what ever means you are accustomed to.

I love this system. Using lacquer based stains, sealers and top coats, clean up was a pain and getting rid of used lacquer thinners was even harder. Now I just throw away the liner and just clean the gun itself.

The 3M product video is excellent.
My experience is solely that of opaque, waterborne lacquer in a garage shop environment where the goal is a piano finish on wood. This is an ambitious goal, especially when having to paint vertical surfaces: the paint levels best at the very point that it sags. My PPS is used with a HVLP touchup gun. Any reasonable steps to facilitate the paint's application are welcomed, if not essential for optimal results. The PPS is touted for its ease of cleaning; however, I reuse the parts (and resent the discarding of plastic to landfills). Why the PPS?
1)A closed system, i.e., a sealed container (dripless), with the ability to spray from any gun position. 2)The built-in filter serves, in my usage, as a second step at paint filtering.

As a custom finisher, I don't think I could work with out a PPS system. Having had this system for two years, I won't ever go back to not using them. I use about 75% less solvent for cleaning and spend half the time cleaning guns. Keep the lids sealed and you can store most anything in the liner. Keep the screw on ring relatively clean and it'll never fail. Pretty easy to use. I would strongly recommend this to any painter.

I've used this only once - to mount coarse sandpaper on push blocks for my jointer in place of the foam pads they come with. I then jointed a number of ash boards (very hard wood) and the sandpaper held perfectly.

I bought this size after being very pleased with the large size. I spray water based finished of various sorts and this is the perfect size for small jobs not requiring a lot of finish. The built in strainer is one of my favorite features and the self collapsing feature that allows me to turn a gravity gun upside down is very helpful.
