Minwax® Wipe-On Poly

Review 1 of 9:

I love this stuff! I think this is the easiest finish I have ever used. I was introduced to it in the August 2005 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine where it received the "best value" and "best overall" ratings among the seventeen wipe on finishes tested. I was especially interested in the fact that it was graded as "excellent" in their water resistance test. This test measured how well it resisted staining when a wet bolt was left on the surface to dry overnight.   It is everything I want in a finish. It applies really easily, sands well, doesn't run or leave brush marks, and dries quickly so there are fewer dust specks. There isn't much smell when applying it and clean up is a simple.  It isn't as dull looking...

After reading the comments about this product I had to try it. It is great. Doesn't have the sheen of teak oil, danish oil or other products. This the product for me from now on.

Review 1 of 6:
I use this on almost everything I build. I've used it on walnut, cherry, maple, jatoba, alder, pine, birch and red oak: decorative items and furniture. My recipe: Sand the bare wood surfaces with 150 and then 220 grit sandpaper. Wear rubber gloves and apply with 0000 steel wool dipped in the finish. Rub the finish into the wood with the steel wool, let it sit for about three minutes and then wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth. Repeat at 24-hour intervals for a total of 4-6 coats for a nice gloss. The first couple of coats seal up the wood and subsequent coats build up a hard finish on the surface. Be sure not to wipe *everything* off on the last few coats. The steel wool buffs out any imperfections or dust embedded in the previous coats and the result is a silky finish that is almost...

I am a plastic model builder who uses this product as a clear coat. It is incredibly durable and stands up well to all types of solvents. I have also used it on some wood working projects and love the ease of application, quick dry time and the durability of the finish.

Minwax® Wood Putty®

Review 1 of 1:

Quite possibly the worst product I have purchased in a long time. Since when do we need "no drying" wood putty? What's next no drying glue? After I applied a first application, I came back the next day to put a final fill into to fix any imperfections from the first fill. As I applied it, the putty knife started pulling out the first application. I felt it and it was still gooey. I read the side of the container and in the smallest writing it says non drying and will not dry to a sandable state. Great. Now I have to pull all that gunk out of all my screw holes and refill with something that will dry. What a waste of time.

Review 1 of 2:
I had just picked this item up as I needed a quick finish, and like water based. Boy was I pleasantly surprised at how well this works. I spray it with my Rockler HVLP gun and 3 coats with 220 grit in between and I get some of the best finish I've done, I'm no expert though. It's tough, looks great and just makes you want to run your hand over the wood.
