Fantastic Porter & Cable 3 1/4 HP Router! I recycled an old De Walt Radial Arm Saw Stand to accommodate my new router and Rockler Table Top. Now I need a Rockler, & Porter & Cable emblem to attach to the front with the De Walt Sign!

A few months ago I needed a new router, saw a good deal on the PC892 and, thinking that Porter Cable was a good name, I jumped on it. Unfortunately, I couldn't have been more disappointed with this tool. If there is anything that a router must have it is a flat base which keeps the bit at a right angle to the table. The base of the PC892 is a thin sheet of plastic that is screwed onto a cast metal base which is not machined.  You are trusting the accuracy of a raw casting to keep your routing setup aligned!  My router rocked back and forth on a flat surface like some kind of child's toy. 1. This unit is heavy. I was able to assemble it completely on my own but a second hand would have been nice. I have a custom made bench for it as you can see in the pictures. The bed weighs over 60 lbs itself and was quite the challenge to get it up the without using the table itself as a lifting point, but as you can see it can be done. The gantry weighs about 35 lbs but it very awkward to move easily. I was worried about damaging it and the mounts so my solution was to lay down a thick piece of cardboard on the table. I purchased this lift about two weeks ago and have used it sparingly in the past few days. The overall construction is solid and the movement is smooth and accurate. Once the height is set and the lock screw is tightened, there is absolutely no movement. The main disappointment is the cheezy insert that fits around the bits. It is made out a thin piece of ABS plastic that absolutely needs the three tiny screws installed when in use. Since I generally don't keep screwdrivers at the router station, it's just one more tool that I need to go fetch in order to change a bit. Not really that much of a problem at the moment because it got shredded the first time I didn't put the screws back in.
