I expected a really great product from Starrett... but what I got was probably a good level with sloppy craftsmanship at an OK price. The finish has some smears and the level vials have dirt in them. The level appears to show level... which is what is essential... but this is not the heirloom I will pass on to future generations.

Miters are tight and accurate, especially on crown moulding where the longer cuts show all errors. This gauge has greatly improved the quality of my work. 99% of all houses are not square. This gauge solves the problem and is simple to use.

Now with that being said you can purchase a simple angle finder for $10 but it does not have numbers so you have to throw it back and forth to your cut man instead of just calling off numbers.

I think this is a quality tool that has been useful and accurate. While the single cut scale is in 2 degree graduations, the miter red scale is in 1 degree graduations. Tool feels solid, and has smooth action. For super precision work, you may want to use a digital angle finder that has a resolution of a tenth of a degree, but for molding this works great.

This ruler is sturdy, accurate and fits in my apron pocket. Well worth the extra money for it's convenience and precision on all scales, especially the 32nds on the short end of the ruler. Perfect for setting router bits.
