I loved working with this stuff especially after struggling with the sticky mess Minwax gel stain made! I sanded lightly and applied it with a sock over a rubber glove in long even strokes. Let it dry as is-it will dry hard in less than a day. Put on extra coats if you want a darker look. The wood grain shines through beautifully, and the General Finishes Gel Urethane Top Coat gives it a golden durable varnished glow. A friend bought some too, but we discovered that the stain looks a little different on different kinds of hardwood. Experiment on the back of a cabinet door to get the color you want. I used straight Brown Mahogany, but her cabinets look like they'll need a mix of that and the Mocha to get the same dark reddish color. Thank you, Rockler!

I ordered 4 size of walnut, 1/2"X3"X4', 3 1/2"W, 5"W, and 3/4"X5"X48". All are bowed up to 1/2". Two of the 5" pieces have splits in the end. Out of order this 10 pieces of walnut are really substandard. All the other wood in this order was fantastic, rosewood, purpleheart, maple yellowheart and padouk. Out of the thousands of dollars of products that I have ordered from Rockler this is the first item that honestly let me down.

I found this harder to use than some of the other reviews would suggest. I used alcohol as the solvent and wiped it on birds eye maple with a cloth. I tried it on a test piece first and the botching was very bad. I then tried mixing with blond shellac and found that to work a bit better, but it was still hard to get a good uniform cover. I don't think these problems are unique to Trans Tint but I don't see this brand as being any easier to use than other stains I have tried. I have since read that it may be better to spray on and to use water as the solvent. I don't think I will bother to try it again.
