The threads on the miter bar are 1/4" 20 but Rockler doesn't sell a handle with the same thread profile, only 5/16" - 18. Any idea where I can find a tall handle with 1/4" - 20 male threads?
Jon B
on Feb 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I believe the threaded holes are meant to attach the bar to the underside of a wooden jig. If you want to attach a handle with different Dia/Pitch directly to the bar, I would suggest using a tap and die to cut a new one.

1/4"-20 machine screws are available everywhere. But the miter bars are are being screwed into plywood; therefore, we need wood screws- correct? I'm guessing we need to drill and countersink our own holes in the miter bars.

BEST ANSWER: This mitre bars are made for a slick fit for a standard 3/4" mitre track. You ned to consider other options. You could make your own out of quarter sawn hardwood as an example. In any event I prefer longer mitre bars as it can come in handy when you need to pull the fixture way back on the in feed side.

BEST ANSWER: My approach when making my sled was to drill holes through the panel and attach it to the miter bar with 1/4-20 screws. You can choose to use pan head or flat head screws, you just have to make sure you countersink the holes in the panel. Hope this helps.

How did you line-up the holes in your panel? Did you use double-side tape or did you attach the bar to the panel first and then trim the panel to fit your needs? Did you use two bars, i.e., one for each miter slot?

Eric I think I understand your question so this is the answer. I used standard flat head 1/4-20 screws. There was no special head. I just used a chamfer bit to recess the head in my sled. The actual hole was a close tolerace clearance for the screww shaft.

The miter bar is meant to fit into the miter slot and a platform (or something else) goes over the bar and the table. The 1/4-29 screw heads fit in sockets in the plate and screw into the bar.

3/4" is not an answer, the question above asks if the bar will fit a 21/32 slot and all the answers are yes so clearly 0.750" is not the correct answer.

BEST ANSWER: It fits my DeWalt table saw with a 3/4 slot in the table. The bar is mounted to a home made cross cut sled. One thing that I have to be careful of is when the sled extends too far beyond the table, the miter bar has decreased contact with the slot and allows the sled to wiggle side to side. The is a function of a short table on the table saw rather than an issue with the miter bar.

BEST ANSWER: I used it on my Saw Stop table saw when I made a Sled. Works fine. If your table has the standard slots for the guide that comes with the saw it should be fine.

Is looseness in the miter track accounted for by backing out the setscrews the appropriate amount and having the head of the setscrew ride along the inside of the track, or do the setscrews go completely through the bar to ride on the flat bottom of the screw?

If my sled is 24" deep, should I opt for the longer bars, or stick to the 24" bar?
Bob M
on Feb 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is a matter of choice and use. If you are making doors etc that are wide and they just fit your sled then you can't raise the blade w/o pulling the sled way back on the table. So longer bars helps. However that has limits given the depth of the inside feed area of the table. I ended up using the 24 in and lived with its limits. You could always make 2 sleds.

Thinking of buying a 36" bar & cutting in half instead of 2 18" bars to save some $$$. I'm assuming that there is a hole that divides the track in half and not an adjustment cam at the mid point of the slide. True? Is there any difference between a 36' bar cut in half and an 18" bar?

This is a nice miter bar. I don’t know how well it will wear, given that it is aluminum instead of steel. But with a lottle care, I expect it to last for years.

Good bars
I read reviews were if one screw goes out of miter slot the bar gest sloppy. Not if adjust right as long as two screws are in slot. You should adjust so no slop and if one goes out either end the other two hold bar with no slop. Also if one goes out of either end and you return there should be no hangup. If either happen you have screw misadjusted. Its actually possible make same situation as bending bar with screws once in slot remember; then it will not return into miter slot but snap in. Take time to adjust bars so screw are such that they slide smoothly. and when one end goes out of slot ;no slop still and the bar returns smoothly inot miter when returned. miter slot.

No sloppiness for me
Charles, who wrote the first review, talked about sloppiness as soon as one of the adjusters at each end leaves the miter track. I worried about that too until I realized that the bar had four adjusters. There is no play in my bar as soon as two of the adjustment screws are in the track and it stays that way until there is only one in the track. I went with the Rockler because I live in Ontario, Canada where there are great changes in humidity and wood might have been a problem. Great product.

First Rate Quality
I needed to make a 45 degree miter crosscut sled for my Bosch jobsite table saw. Most box making reference manuals strongly suggest doing this for repetitive accuracy, my miter gauge wasn't giving me the stability I needed so I thought this worth the extra effort. The 1/4 20 threaded holes I initially thought problematic, but I used a slightly smaller drill bit, then simply drilled through the miter bar (using the bar as a guide)and base board. After removing the bars, I drilled out and chamfered the holes to fit the flathead machine screws. I could have used a sized Transfer Punch and a brad point drill bit, but this method seemed more straight forward and a tad more accurate. A few taps with a mallet and the sled slid through nicely.

Perfect
I ordered two Rockler Aluminum Miter Bars for a project, they were just what I needed. They come pre-drilled and tapped for 1/4" bolts, and being aluminum, it was easy to drill a couple more holes to add wood screws that install from the bottom. Of course I supplied all the fasteners for my project, it is impossible for the supplier to know what the customer will need.

Ordered 2 of the 18" bars to make a 2nd crosscut sled. Just can't figure how other folks thought there was more coming with these things than did. I must say though, that I am almost as pleased with the tube containers they came in as I am with the bars themselves. Two of those tubes is almost like getting a $10-$15 dollar bonus. WooHoo!!! Plus a screwdriver with each also. It's amazing how the small things can enhance a purchase. Way to go Rockler!!!!

I ordered two of the 24" bars to make a crosscut sled for my Bosch job site table saw. When the box arrived there was only one bar even though all the paperwork said that they had shipped 2. After a couple of e-mails (very quick response from Rockler) I had my missing bar in 2 days. The bars are excellent; the adjustment screws keep them tight in the miter slots for accurate cuts. I wish the miter gauge that came with my saw had this feature. Good product and even better customer service.

Great except for plastic adjustment screws
I have purchased ball plungers for all miter bars that I have in additional to these bars. I have installed plungers in the miter gauge for my Jet table saw and the miter bar for my Inca miter gauge. Jet had suggested that you dimple the edge of the bar to get a 'tight' fit while Inca has an expandable washer controlled by a through screw. The expandable washer is probably nylon, and it wears!
I am replacing the M6 adjustment screws in the Rockler bar with ball plungers. I have used balls with a max. force of 2.25.
Changing the other bars was a pain since the bars are steel.
Suggestion to Rockler!! Upgrade the product.

straight, sturdy, but potentially difficult to attach
The miter slot adjustments work well. The aluminum is machined true. The only qualm I have with this product is that the countersink is too shallow for traditional fasteners. This requires you to counter bore and fasten the miter bar through the top of the jig rather than screwing into the jig through the bar from the bottom. If you don't have a drill press, this will be difficult; a slightly off-plum hole over the thickness of 3/4" plywood will significantly misalign your hole pattern. However, the hole pattern was in standard measurements at 1/4" increments so measurement and marking for hole pattern was a breeze. Overall, this a great product.
