Overview

Our Roman Ogee Plunge Bit can be used for any fluting application, and even for routing sign text, but it is perhaps most often used to create a panel door effect for painted MDF and solid wood. Roman Ogee in essence, the profile's radiused bottom gives a positive-negative effect to the cut shape of successive passes. It is also a great option for creating edge moldings. Twin-flute cutters.

I purchased this router bit because...

Robert H from Lake Elsinore, CA Posted April 14, 2009
I purchased this router bit because I needed a plunge bit with an ogee-like profile. This bit I purchased has a 1/2" shank, which reduces chatter and vibration. The bit is also carbide tipped, which usually lasts a very long time. I used a router bushing as a guide for the bit, and a curve-shaped template I made out of MDF. If you don't have bushings, consider one with a bearing. This particular bit was used on both pine and red oak. In the pine, it left a very smooth surface in the curved groove I cut. However, in the red oak, the bit had some trouble when the grain changed direction due to the curved pattern. There was some minor chip-out. These were sample drawer fronts, so for the real drawer fronts I will slow down the feed rate a little bit. Theoretically the bits are sharpened with 600-800 grit diamond wheels, so I don't think they can be made any sharper. Overall I'm really happy with Rocker router bits, and they are the ones I purchase typically. I would buy this bit again for sure.
