Overview

Run your finger along the edge of Rockler's premium Lathe Tool Rests, and you'll know instantly what a pleasure they are to use. That's because each tool rest is capped with a 5/16" round stainless steel bar, providing a silky smooth surface for your turning tools to glide across, and a comfortable contour for your fingers to slide in as you work. The rests are available in three sizes, so you can pick the one most suited to your work. Short rests allow you to sneak in closer, even if other parts of the workpiece are wider, while longer rests provide more sliding surface without having to readjust. 5/8" diameter mounting post fits most mini and midi lathes.

Technical Details:

  • 5/8" diameter mounting post fits most mini and midi lathes.
  • 5/16" round stainless steel tool rest.
  • Cast steel body with black epoxy finish.
  • Integrated mounting post (not threaded) so it won't loosen with vibration or impact.
  • 3 sizes: 4", 6" and 10" long.

What an Improvement!

Jim Posted September 16, 2014
My lathe is not a fancy one and came with a 6-inch tool rest, and it has a pretty crude finish. Being fairly new to turning, I relied on the tool rest to help me control my tools and develop my technique. I ordered the 10-inch tool rest primarily so I wouldn't need to stop the lathe and move the rest so often. But I was very pleased to see what a finely made rest can mean. My chisels move much easier and smoother, and the smooth finish on the front is much more comfortable for my fingers. I feel much more confident using this new rest and I'm happy that I bought it.

Finally

I have been turning for about 15 years. All of the tool rests that I have seen has put a strain on my fingers rubbing up against the rest, especially when the rest has a rough surface. I constantly have to fine sand the rest for smoothness. I bought the 4" and 6" rest for pen turning. These rests are a dream come true. I am so pleased with them that I am purchasing the 10" as well for bowls. If you struggle with cheap rests that come with your lathe. I suggest that you trash them and get these. You will not regret it.

Very happy

Been turning only about 1 1/2 Yrs. Have tried several others trying to find one that feels comfortable. Best tool rest I've seen or used to date. Bought 6" first, other 2 are on order.
