BEST ANSWER: You will need to know the hole pattern and spacing of the holes in your router and check them against our router plate guides (These can be found on Rocker's website under router plates and in the technical downloads category. We have guides for A-D plates, but if you can't find one that fits, we also have the option of two plates that are not drilled that you could drill to fit your router

I have a rockler router table. The plate that came with it is too small for my Triton router. I ordered a proplate C but the plate is now too big for the opening in the table. I have no template or guide and now I have two pieces that do not work together and I am VERY FRUSTRATED. What am I to do?

BEST ANSWER: You can use this template to cut larger openings. Lay out here you want the opening, set your depth, and route. Next set up a fence so you can slide the template one inch to make the wider cut. Clamp down the template and make your final cut. By sliding the template you make pretty much any size opening you need.

No. The Kreg router plate is 1 inch wider (9-1/4" x 11-3/4") than the rockler router plate (8-1/4" x 11-3/4").

Works Great
This product is excellent. When used with the Rockler Pattern Bit #33536 it gives great results. The only recommendation I can give prior to use is to remove the informational sticker from the template before use (or simply install the template on the workpiece with the sticker down). The reason for this is that the bottom of my router hung up on the sticker and tore it from the template. Other than that, the template is well worth the money.

I checked the template and discovered...
I checked the template and discovered that the template was not snug to the plate. I used 3 rows of masking tape on the inside of the template, checked it against the router plate and then cut a trial cutout in an extra piece of material. The template was still approx 1/32 too loose. one more interior wrap, cut the template out and the router plate needs to be tapped into the cutout with zero tolerance of movement in any direction. While not perfect out of the box it did provide a great starting point.

Handy but needs a tighter fit.
If you are going to use this, be aware that it is somewhat too loose for the Rockler router plate. It would be wise to put some tape on it to make the plate fit more snugly. It was easy to use, though, and I plan to use it for another router table, it's well made. I just wanted to make life easier instead of making my own template, etc.

does not fit older Rockler router plates
I bought my Rockler router table many years ago. I'm not sure when Rockler changed plate sizes, but this template does not fit my plate. Mine is 8"x11" with 1/2" radius corners. I had to make my own template. I got good results, but would have liked to bang it out with the template I bought. Fortunately, I was able to return the template.

Worth the money for the time it saved me
You can manage without one of these. It did the job I needed it to do and gave me peace of mind that I would have a good fit for my router plate.
The fit was good enough for me. I might have been able to get a tighter fit, but I doubt it would make much of a difference on work pieces.
If you plan on making more router tables in the future, I'd advise using this template to make additional templates out of 1/2 plywood for more durability over the years.....You could always go out and buy another one though since they aren't that expensive.

Too easy
Makes routing the opening for the matching aluminum router plate as easy as it gets. Professional looking results. Too cheap to not get.
There is a bit of gap but thats a good thing. Just shim the plate all around with some paper and its centered.

1/16th gap and the router bit to install it took 2 months to arrive
There is no reason that the patterning bit should not be included in this as a set. It cannot be done without the bit and I was forced to wait 2 months for a simple router bit so I could install this. Then after all of that it isn't even a perfect fit. Normally I have high expectations for Rockler templates, this one fell way short. Editor's note: The reason the patterning bit is sold separately rather than included with this template is that it is used for a variety of items and many woodworkers already have this bit. Therefore including it would be a duplication for many folks at a higher cost.

My template was loose also and...
My template was loose also and I tried the masking tape trick on the inside but found it time consuming and it did not stick well to the MDF when I tried a test cut. I solved the problem by cutting a narrow strip of masking tape and winding it around the guide bearing. It took four turns to get it exact and worked great, much simpler.

My solution to the 1/16 gap...
My solution to the 1/16 gap in the template. I bought some 3/4 birch edge banding glued it in place on the inside of the template. In the corners i used a wood burning iron to melt the glue and a 1/2 inch dowel to seat the banding. trim flush with a razor blade and some light sanding with 100 grit paper and presto, a perfect fit. it took me about 45 minutes not you too will have a perfect fitting router plate.

I needed to replace the table...
I needed to replace the table faceplate on the table I purchased a few years ago. The original faceplate was no longer available and they sent me the larger faceplate. But that is another story After receiving the template, I too slipped the faceplate into the template and found it to be about 1/16" to big on both sides. In all fairness . The original faceplate is almost 1/16" smaller than the original table opening as well.Taking advantage of a previous entry, I lined the inner edges of the template with a few layers of masking tape, used the original faceplate to outline then cut an opening in a scrap piece of melamine, positioned the template over the scrap and used that to route, tweak and adjust the layers of masking tape to attain a tight fit for the new faceplate. It cost me close to an hour to get the fit I wanted. After aligning the template to the opening in the table and a couple of passes with a router later, the faceplate fit better than the original. If the template was correctly sized to the faceplate I would give it 5 stars. As it is, it requires additional work to get a great fit, but it is an excellent starting point to work from.

check before you cut!
I bought this template and the aluminum router plate. The dimensions given on the attached label of the template do not work well for the plate!!! They are too small and the 1/4-20 mounting holes will only be halfway on the wood. I messed up my whole tabletop when I foolishly trusted the template before testing the plate.

It works but isn't necessary
It works, but I'm pretty sure I could have done this easier with a straight price of stock clamped to the table. Save yourself $10 and diy it

I'm building my own router table and thought this would be an easy way to cut one out. I bought the pro plate at the same time and notice when I got them in it doesn't fit the pattern. The pattern is off by a good 1/8th inch on the side, 1/16th on each side. It was a waist of 10.99 + getting it if you want a precise fitting plate.. So much for my laziness. I'll make my own pattern for the router. I'll probably return this pattern and ask them to learn how to use a ruler.

I read previous reviews about a "loose plate fit" but purchased both the template and Rockler suggested flush router bit anyway. After very carefully using the template with the bit on a scrap piece of plywood, I, too, found the resulting "cut out" to be about 1/16th too big. I'll try other bits with collars, etc to try and tighten up the fit. I do have several other Rockler jigs that I'm very happy with and will continue to try new ones as they come out.

I also found the template to be 1/16th too big all around. I used double-sided tape and one layer of cut-to-fit poster board to compensate, but it's still a bit too loose for me. I tried two layers of poster board on two test pieces, but that was too snug. I'm seriously thinking of using some sort of filler to close the remaining tiny gap.

I bought this product a while ago along with the aluminum router plate. While the router plate is excellent, this template is not. I was expecting a very snug fit, but when I took the router plate and dropped it in the template for a quick check, there was more than 1/16th inch play on BOTH sides. Since I wanted a very snug fit (isn't it why we buy that thing anyway?) I had to line the inside of the template with multiple layers of masking tape to get it right. I bought the template to save time but it ended up costing me more that what it's worth.

Useless
Do not wast your time or money, most of the negative reviews about the sloppy fit were old so I thought the issue had been resolved. 1/16 off in both directions, when I tried to use tape to make the fit better the corners started to gape. In the end I just used four true planks and clamps. Even if someone consistently bolted their insert down that size of gap is rediculous, if you don't then your router will be bouncing around? Unsafe and could cause major problems!!!

This template is too big. You can make your own like I did and it will fit. This is a waste of time, wood and money!

I purchased this product & a router lifter. I built my own router top and wanted to be assured it would fit properly. I read the post that the template would result in a loose fitting router plate but thought I could remedy this the same way stated previously. Not so! The router lift corner radius was not the same as the template & it took several attempts with drum sanders in the drill press to make the template close. End result poor product.
