It Works

i don't have a problem with this marker. It is accurate and transfers to the wood just fine. I gave it 5 stars because it does what it is supposed to do.

Great tool at a good price...

After reading reviews of marking gauges from several different brands I decided to swing by the local Rockler and give this one a shot. If it didn't work as expected I could take it back. Ive tested it out and I am pretty happy with it. The wheel turns easily and doesn't wobble. The marks on the rod are accurate for measuring depth, but not to the wheel. I assume that is by design. I'll be using it to transfer the thickness of a board when cutting dovetails, so i don't need to know the thickness I just need to transfer it. The price is right and the quality is great. I am sure this will replace my shop-made marking gauge (Japanese style).

Works the way it was intended.

After reading all the reviews I was hesitant to order this tool. This tool is one of the oldest types of measuring device, put the marker on the mark you want, lock the collar, transfer to whatever your marking.
One review about .0025 wasn't good enough so it was worked down to .0016, if you're marking something that precise you should use a computer.
As for the cutter wobbling, mine tightened up fine, but I was looking to put a small thin washer to tighten it up. As for how sharp it is? It doesn't need to be razor sharp to make a mark. And the thumbscrew not tightening down, I don't know what to say about that, and the description of the tool tells the measurement scale. If it's not precise enough you maybe should have looked for something more precise.

The tool works great for what I wanted, transferring a measurement to another piece. The older versions of this are made of wood with no marks on the device, only a nail and a large block that slides.

I am very happy with this product and would recommend this product to others.
