Works the way it was intended.

Dave Posted January 9, 2014
After reading all the reviews I was hesitant to order this tool. This tool is one of the oldest types of measuring device, put the marker on the mark you want, lock the collar, transfer to whatever your marking.
One review about .0025 wasn't good enough so it was worked down to .0016, if you're marking something that precise you should use a computer.
As for the cutter wobbling, mine tightened up fine, but I was looking to put a small thin washer to tighten it up. As for how sharp it is? It doesn't need to be razor sharp to make a mark. And the thumbscrew not tightening down, I don't know what to say about that, and the description of the tool tells the measurement scale. If it's not precise enough you maybe should have looked for something more precise.

The tool works great for what I wanted, transferring a measurement to another piece. The older versions of this are made of wood with no marks on the device, only a nail and a large block that slides.

I am very happy with this product and would recommend this product to others.

Works very well. I didn't notice...

Works very well. I didn't notice the issues other reviewers mentioned about excess play in the wheel - I'm able to make accurate repeatable easily. Yes the scale on the rod is only marked in 1/8" increments, but for any precise marking I need to make I set the distance on the gauge with a ruler anyway.

I was holding-out on this item...

Joe L from Alta Loma, CA Posted December 26, 2011
I was holding-out on this item because of so-so reviews... until this recent Christmas Sale came along with free shipping. I started asking my own questions about it... got good reports no bad. I decided to try it! I love it! Very good materials. Easy to adjust with one hand... The circular cutter could be a little sharper, but it still makes a good mark. I like the little hollowed spot so the marking cutter will recess into it for added protection when not in use. Nice touch. The Imperial 1/8" rule as well as the metric mm rule are easy to read and it feels like they're etched/ground into the shaft, not sure. The shaft is strong & of good weight feeling good in your hand. Very well machined... I love it. I think anyone would like it. I cannot see how it got bad reviews in the past. Rockler, Thank you!
