Is there a PDF of the manual available?
William K
on May 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe a PDF is available. This unit is sealed has no serviceable parts. As another answer states you plug it in and plug the tool into it and you are set. Don't consider wiring this into your machine. Use the plugs as it comes and as the manufacturer means it to be used. If you need to wire in a switch this one is not for you.

will this work for a craftsman/sear 1950s table saw?
jon b
on Jan 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but some work would be involved. If the saw is wired for 120 then there is no problem. However, you would need to rewire the saw to bypass the current on/off switch. If you do that, then simply plug the saw into this switch and it will provide control. You could, however, simply always leave the current switch in the "on" position and that would work also. The only other question deals with mounting this in a convenient location where the switch paddle would be easily accessible. Ideally this switch is mounted where you can easily hit the off paddle, and usually that's in a place where you could press it using your knee or hip or whatever, not just your hand, so a good mounting position might be difficult.

Probably will. The age of equipment is not important. Check the amp rating of the saw with that of the switch. If saw is same or lower then you should be OK. Might also want to check the same for startup power rating. Also the saw must be 120 v AC and single phase with a standard 120 v AC grounded plug.

You should not use this switch on any table saw, router or other tool where a cutter is engaging the work piece at high speed. If there is a power failure and subsequent quick power restoration you will be in big trouble. These types of tools must use a magnetic switch or "mag switch". With a mag switch if power is lost the switch will keep power off until you manually turn on the switch again. This gives you time to safely reposition the work piece before restoring power.

Only one device may be directly plugged into this switch. Although I am not an electricialn, you may consider plugging your router and vacuum into a power strip and then position the safety switch between your power source and the power strip. Both can be mounted to your table. Be sure the total load does not exceed 15 amps. Again, just an idea for consideration.

In those situations where a table saw is wired for 220 volts it is just the saw motor that is so wired. The on/off circuit is normally just 110 volts so you can wire this switch into that circuit.

If the router switch is on, and the Start has been pushed on the Safety Power Tool Switch prior to plugging into the wall outlet will the router start when plugged in? Or, must the Start switch be pushed after plugging into the wall outlet? In other words: Does it have an electro-magnetic hold/release on the Start switch?
Armand
on Sep 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The switch is electro mechanical. This means that if the device is not plugged in, it is possible to activate the Start button into the 'on' position such that the router will start when you plug it in. Also, if you pull the plug on the router with the Safety Switch in the Start position, it does not reset the switch and the router will start up when you plug the Safety Switch back in. Of course, you should always avoid turning a tool off by pulling the plug.

The unit does not have a magnetic drop out feature. Once "start" is pushed the switch will remain in the "on" position until it is physically turned off. In short, it is not designed for industrial use, and it may not be "OSHA" approved in that environment.

Replacing paddle switch on table saw Can this be hard wired?
A shopper
on May 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Short answer: Yes. First, I'm going to assume you or someone has the necessary electrical skills to do it. Now, it will require some modification, and that will likely void the warranty. I don't know if that matters to you, but it's something to consider. I made changes to mine, namely cutting off the cord ends so I could integrate it into the existing table. For me, a former contractor, that was no big deal...just doing. I wouldn't modify the mechanism itself...since it's primarily a safety item in the first place, but exchanging the cord ends for some other arrangement certainly isn't that big a deal.

Anything can be hard wired with some effort. This switch doesn't appear to be designed to be used that way. The router or other tool plugs into the switch which plugs into the line socket. This makes total sense. If it was hard-wired what would you do if you wanted to change the tool being controlled and what do you really gain?

The table saw I have, has a motor with a standard plug on it which was wired into the measly toggle switch by someone with no experience using a table saw. IF you are able to access the motor power line, then a simple GOOD quality grounded plug will work with this switch bypassing the original switch on your saw. It makes a HUGE difference where you place it -- be aware or how you use the saw and where a quick stop button would most easily be reached. AS the previous fellow said, DON'T mess with the safety gear on the actual table saw, just access the power connections and work from there. IT's worth a change if you need a better switch!

This product has US 110v plug and receptacle, not UK 240v. You could get adapters for both ends, but such configurations tend to work loose in my experience, especially under vibratory load. And the wire is probably good for >15 amps but the manufacturer may not stand by the product if you exceed that limit. I would look for other options before going with this one.

When engaging the green “ON” button, I don’t get a very good contact because I need to press it 3-3 times and directly in the center of the button to start the saw motor. I checked for lose wiring or sawdust that might impair the starting, but to no avail. Is it just “worn out”?

Just what I wanted. Great switch, Well made.
I put the panic switch on a plate and docking cradle. I can move the switch and plate from station to station. Have a docking cradle at each station in the best location for safety. Then I move the switch with the base plate around the shop to each station with a docking cradle as needed for more than one tool. Simple inline plugin and I have a Panic switch where I am working at for that tool. Great switch and handles all my shop tools. May buy more and dedicate around the shop.

Replacement for unavailable switch
My old Sears table saw on/off switch broke and I thought I'd try this switch for a replacement. It worked perfectly. No need to riping into the old switch to get wires out and do some sort of gimicky connection. I really like this switch

Safety Frist
I had to make mounting bracket for my Rockler router table but after installed it did what I wanted it to do. Otherwise it was hard to turn my router on and off.

So convenient to have power where you need it and the big stop button is a huge plus so you aren't fumbling around to turn it off!

Very easy to install and great upgrade to router table
I made a router table which I mounted the switch and love it. I think the best part I liked was they give you a nice long wire to plug into an outlet.

Safety Power Tool Switch works well
I needed an safety switch for my router that was permanently setup on a router table. .The Safety Power Tool Switch worked great. I can shut off my router with my knee leaving my hands free because of the large stop plate on the switch. I would highly recommend this switch..

Safety Switch
I have been searching for an economical power switch for some time. I tried several so called "Shop Grade" power strips to remotely power my dust collection system, they all tripped their respective reset button. I thought I was doomed to walk across my shop each time I wanted to power it up. This switch worked perfectly first time!! Would definitely recommend it. Thank you!!!

Excellent paddle switch
Installed the paddle switch on a 1950’s 10” bandsaw. It works great and I have it positioned so I can hit it with my knee to turn it off.

A must have for all large power tools!
The switch is easy to wire and mount to the tool. I now have one on my Rockwell 10" table saw, drill press and band saw. I mounted the switch on the front of each machine where it is easy to get to with my hand to turn on and easy to bump with my knee to turn off. These switches should be a requirement for all new tools!

Excellent Solution
I used this switch in lieu of the power switch on my table saw which was sticking.
Waiting for this switch to go on sale again for $29.99 so I remotely turn on my dusk collector.

Switch nestled off to the right side. I can shut it off with my leg if my hands are busy.

life saver
I went back to Rockler and purchased the on/off switch to add to the router table I recently purchased. I did not feel comfortable in sticking my hand under the router table to turn on/off the router. Quick and safely does the job. I love it.

Wish I had bough years ago
The switch was easy to install as you just plug in your tool to the plug. I mounted it to a board that I had mounted to my table saw. It is much easier to find the off switch now. I feel it has made my table saw a safer tool.

Table saw switch hiding under the table. This switch remounted in view is a definite safety improvement. The stop lever is big and easy to hit.

This piece of equipment has only one function, to turn on and off my router, which is mounted in my router table. It has never failed, and that's all I ask of it. My switch is mounted on the cabinet that houses my router table, slightly below waist height, so it's easy for me to reach with my hand or my knee.

So much safer!
I got tired of reaching under the router table to find that itty-bitty switch that is on the side of my router. Often found my hand too near the bit while I was searching for the switch. this makes it easy and safe to turn on and off.

fFor wore out scroll saw switch.
My wife's scroll saw power switch was wore out and she is using it instead. Truly I should have got her one years ago, she can shut off the scroll saw with a knee and keep both hands on her work.

I have three!
This makes 3 of these in my shop. First was for my router table, second for my lathe, and now I have one on my 2hp dust collector. All three solved a different problem for me and they work great!
