Where can I find this in a wider sheet (need a piece at least 14"x14")?
Thomas A
on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: For bigger projects, I cut two pieces and align them along the edge. I paint the substrate the same color as the velvet. I use the factory edge along the seam and my cut edge along the edge of the workpiece, where it is usually hidden or at least not too noticeable.

BEST ANSWER: I've also entered this same question. I checked the answer given just now and could not find said velvet at Amazon. Black is available via Amazon/Rockler. The only place I've found and purchased PSA velvet with a wine color (but not quite dark enough) is from Eagle. However, its quality is doesn't measure up to what is available at Rockler and isn't adequate for my boxes.

I'd like to just roll this out and use it to line a few shelves of a curio cabinet. Will it stay in position on a wood shelf? Do it have a nice look ? Thank you!
Peter F
on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will stay in place. The adhesive is very good on the under side. However when putting it down make sure you start out straight as possible. Otherwise you will have to pull it up and that begins to make things difficult. You can pull it initially but not a lot of it if it is long.

Thanks so much. I was wondering how it would work and look if I didn't remote the backing for the adhesive. I'd use it in a curio cabinet where I would display stuff that I wouldnt move too often. Maybe my answer is to remove the adhesive just at the corners to keep it in place a bit? Thanks for any additional thoughts!

It will work nicely if you are careful to position properly on a clean dust free surface. Do not remove the entire backing at one time but rather remove as you apply making sure that you squeeze out air pockets as you go. Once down you will like the results.

I used it to line a wood jewelry box and drawers. It has pretty good adhesive so line it up before placing it. I think it would work well in a curio. Make sure the area is clean as this will pick up dust very easily

Can this be used on foam?
WILLIAM M
on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The adhesive used on this velvet is a very aggressive pressure sensitive type adhesive. It should stick very firmly as long as the foam surface was dry and oil free. However, due to the aggressive nature of the adhesive, attempting to remove or reposition the velvet might damage the underlying foam. Good luck.

Yes, but you only get one chance on the very sticky back side. Once you start, continue to move in one direction and keep smoothing the surface as you go. You can probably pull up an immediate wrinkle, but not if you get to far ahead of the wrinkle when putting the velvet down.

BEST ANSWER: This velvet is soft and consistent in texture. The photos here make it look like it is styrofoam or something...it is not. I use this frequently...it is a fabric with an adhesive backing. The velvet surface is very similar to velvet you will find in the fabric store, except maybe not as plush of a pile. When placed into a box, it gives it a nice soft rich feel and it adheres wonderfully!

Does this have finished edges or does it need to be folded for the top exposed edge?
J S
on Mar 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My application didnt have any exposed edges. But I looked at an extra piece I had and it seems to be a solid color just like your normal craft felt. This stuff is so thin that I don't think you'd be able to notice If there was a slight color difference. And if there was, you could take a permanent marker to it before applying it...depending on your color, mine was black. Good luck!

I tried putting the velvet in after the box was complete and it was very difficult. I now buy velvet from Hobby Lobby. I cut a piece of 1/4" plywood and wrap the velvet across the face and around the edges. I use spray adhesive to attach the velvet to the plywood.

The adhesive is edge to edge. I cut mine to leave the factory edge near the top edge that people would see. On the inside and bottom I used the back end of a knife to press it into the corners. I then used an Exact -o knife to trim the edges.

As far as removing, again I didn't apply it to glass but I think it will stick pretty aggressively compared to wood but I'm sure you would be able to remove it with a little work then clean the adhesive off the glass with a solvent or mineral spirits.

I have never used it on top of a glass table. I know that it sticks very well to wood and I have never had to remove it. I guess if you needed to you could use nail polish remover to dissolve the glue

I have a cabinet that has 70 small drawers that are 2.75"w X 7" deep & 6 drawers that are 4.75"w X 7" deep. How many pieces of velvet liner do I need to purchase from if velvet liner is 12" X 24" per roll.

on Mar 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The short answer is that you will need SEVEN rolls. You can get 11 pieces 2.75 x 7 from one roll with a little waste. Five rolls will give you 55 pieces. You can get 7 pieces 2.75 x 7 AND 4 pieces 4.75 x 7 from another roll and 8 pieces 2.75 x 7 AND 3 pieces 4.75 x 7 from another roll. So total is exactly what you want from 7 rolls. Hope this helps.

Quick rough math looks like you would get 12 small drawers per roll so 6 rolls for the small drawers and 1 roll should cover all 6 large for a total of 7 rolls.

Perfect for a novice woodworker
I'd highly recommend this product. I used an X-acto precision craft knife to cut the pieces I needed to rehab an old jewelry box. The adhesive is strong, the velvet looks smooth and sturdy, and there's nothing unsightly about the edges/seams to cover up. Great product for a novice woodcrafter like me!

Great for boxes!
I've been using this velvet for many years. In the past I had difficulty fitting it to the bottom of my small boxes. Recently I made several boxes and used a new technique. I cut a template from paper to fit the bottom of each box. I then taped the paper to the velvet and cut the velvet to fit. I used a technique mentioned in the reviews to spray a small amount of Windex to the adhesive which gave me some time to move the velvet in place. It worked great!

Not Used
Have not yet used it!However, I would like to comment on the Padded Ring Bars. The order amount, 24" is too much for one box and the cost , nearly $15/foot is too high. Therefore I did not order this item and will have to shop other sources or develop some substitute.

Good product
I am now finishing the tenth project with this self-adhesive velvet! I use it to cover the bottom of heirloom boxes and the tray. It gives a nice finished look to the project.
To cut it to fit, I use a rotary cutter, like a veneer cutter. You could also use a fabric cutter, though be sure to remove any residual adhesive! I cut the velvet about 1/4" oversize. Then lay it velvet side down on a clean work surface. Peel off the release paper. Carefully drop the bottom piece onto the velvet. Press firmly. Then flip it over and smooth out any wrinkles in the velvet. If you dado a groove for the bottom, allow extra width for the velvet thickness.
Save the release paper; glue doesn't stick to it; so it protects work tables from glue squeeze out.
Very important: do not try to put the velvet in place after the project is complete; it stretches and retracts; and is nearly impossible to fit.

Great Project
I lined two porcelain, china painted boxes that were round and oval shaped. I took the advise offered here and used a little Windex, but used it on my boxes since they were porcelain, not on the adhesive of the liner. That gave me more time to move the liner around and place in the correct position. I also used the back side of a teaspoon to smooth out the liner and edges without leaving any marks on the velvet. Looks great!

Display case
Had a display case that was 32" long, so had to overlap the two sheets of velvet by 3/16" and cut together. Pulled out the extra velvet and the two pieces fit perfectly. I used the blue velvet, which showed off the antique sword in a black cherry case. Customer was very pleased.
Would recommend this product for any display case or jewelry boxes. Must be very careful when applying self adhesive velvet because it sticks very quickly and can not be adjusted. I peel back the protective paper about an inch and align one side before removing paper in small increments to avoid getting bubbles under velvet.

Self adhesive velvet
I've been using this self adhesive velvet for several years. I've tried all the colors sold by Rockler. They are all easy to install.
I like the light colors because dust on it is only slightly noticeable and easy to remove. But the dark colors like red, dark blue and green are exceptionally nice. So try it yourself and see.
