I've installed shutters in 3 houses...

Donald R from Lahaina, HI Posted August 25, 2013
I've installed shutters in 3 houses so far. I make the control arms out of poplar which is a little stronger than basswood. Haven't had any fasteners pull out. There is some product variation in the spacing between the fastener ends, however, which can make installation challenging. For the basswood louver, I 1)dip the ends of a fastener in a small puddle of wood glue, 2) begin insertion in the basswood louver, 3)rotate the fastener 90 degrees to the final orientation, 4) insert fastener to the bottom of the hole, 5) add an extra drop of glue to the hole if it is not completely filled. This method has worked well for me. /p>

This product is hard to install. I...

Cosmo S from Rye, NY Posted July 10, 2013
This product is hard to install. I installed 20 of these and about half of them pulled out after 5 or 6 uses. No instructions were provided, although I believe I used the correct drill bit size of 3/32". This was based on what was offered by the shutter jig sold by Rockler. I should admit that I did not purchase the shutter jig, but instead made my own which I thought worked fairly well. It was hard to justify cost of jig, that was actually overly complicated, by its one size fits all design. Extremely disappointed with this product and I would hope others find a better way to connect the control arm.
