Overview
Lids lower gently--never crushing fingers. Support opens lids to a maximum angle of 105° and is 8-7/8" long overall. They have nickel plated steel arms with cream colored plastic housing. Compact design makes these supports ideal for installing in tight places. Use one support per 43 inch/lbs. Determine inch/lbs with this formula: (lid wt. X front to back size) divided by 2.

BEST ANSWER: I would recommend at least two lid support as you have 286 inch pounds to hold.
Rocklers item #26237 and #26203 are a right hand and left hand support. and have a max rating of 125 in. pounds. If more is need then #26153 would be sufficient to carry the extra weight. It is a 35-40 inch pound back mount support

Please use the lid weight formula in the Rockler Catalog to determine if you need on or two soft down lids. I was border line on whether to use one or two and decide to use two. It turned out it was the right choice. If children are going to be opening and closing the lid I would definitely use two. The soft down lid is really a good quality lid mechanism and not that difficult to install.

Since MDF is much heavier than oak, and you are working with twice as many square inches, you will need something stronger.

I'm not sure, but I think that would be a little heavy for one support. I used it on a cedar chest 48" x 20" and I believe it was at the single support's limit. If this is your first time using this product, I have never got it to work right the first time by the directions.

No, your lid is too heavy for this support.
I have numerous toy box projects, and this will
not support the lid, you want the torsion hinges, 40 to 50
All out better product and safer for the child and yourself.

The soft closing mechanism works great , however , mdf is not good for holding small screws. Gluing a small piece of veneer, 1/16 inch thick, where it is being mounted would help keep the screws in place.

I used one for a wash stand top that weighs about 12 pounds and it is marginal.
Note that the spec is "inch /pounds" (not exactly clear).

No, your door weight is too heavy.
I've installed these on wood chest lids and the

I'll be honest, the first one of these wasn't easy to install - the dimensions in the instructions are a little daunting. "19/64 of an inch"? Really? But once I got over that, it was pretty easy. And boy, do they close like a *dream*. The lids on my bench seats are very heavy. Lots of smashed fingers. But now...well, check out the video below. You can't even hear them close!

Measure carefully
My 1st attempt I converted from mm to inches and I got close. I had digital mm/in caliper I used for my second attempt and it worked. I worked with cardboard templates before drilling. Watch were you are to measure from. It took time and depending on the play in the hinges (I was able to measure the play and adjusted by half). It worked for me.

Child Safety is a must
My wife named this project "Godzilla" because it just kept growing and growing...
Started out as a simply toy chest, one of those patterns from a catalog, in fact with a Noah's Ark figure. But our 3-year-old granddaughter was so thrilled at what she called "Beach Days" when we spent a week on a beach that he made a Beach Days theme out of it.
Being a granddaughter's gift, of course, nothing's too good. I added brass handles, a piano hinge, brass corner protectors,, a framed seaside photo on the outside, her initials, a collage of beach day photos on the inside lid, plus framed photos of both parents and both sets of grandparents.
Needless to say, all this made for a very heavy chest, so heavy that I also added caster so it could get around. Then to protect 3-year-old hands, I went in search of the soft-close feature and found yours. Even working on the collage of memories and the family photos, the soft-close feature has been a blessing. If it's good for me, it'll be great for a little girl.
Definitely worth the added expense.

Excellent product
As the lid I used it on was a flip up stair / toy box at the bottom of a Castle/ bunkbed for a 4.5 year and a 1.5 year old G'daughter's. I didn't want any fingers to get pinched. with the configuration I ordered 2 and both were needed as per the weight chart provided with the instructions on Rockler's site it turn out perfect for what I intended it to do .

Works Great - Easy Installation
Works as advertised. Instructions are good enough to get it installed with just a little modification to include the actual size of my chest top.

Great product
Install was very easy, took 5 minutes. Works better than any soft close device I've ever used.

Great dampener for a wooden toy chest. Now i don't have to worry about children getting their fingers slammed by the heavy wooden top.

Perfect lid
Bought this and was not sure about it.....but gave it a try. I'm a little bit amazed how small the instructions can be, but, once past that this item is PERFECT. It's exactly what my wife wanted and I got it installed easily. I took a piece of paper out of my printer and measured the distances on that. Then just held up the paper, and placed a couple of push pins into the wood through the paper. Worked great. There are and will be no smashed fingers for my grandkids thanks to this device. IT'S PERFECT.

Nice hardware, a little tough to install. I would recommend these to a friend...
These soft close lid supports work perfectly , I've used them on several blanket chests with great success. Installing is difficult, they are of Japanese manufacture, all supplied measurements are in millimeters. Once you get them installed correctly they work excellent.

I like it!
Once I figured it out, installation was easy, I would recommend this for any project that has a heavy lid.

Works like a charm!

Made a toy chest for my grandson. This is exactly what I was looking for. I used one on each side to make sure no little fingers were going to be hurt. (maybe a little overkill?) Only complaint, the directions could be a little clearer.

Exactly what I was looking for. Works great, directions could be better. Comes down slow and closes ever so soft. Going back to get another one
