- Solid Brass 2'' x 3/4'' Box Corners
Overview
Commonly called "campaign hardware", this line of gorgeous brass hardware serves both to beautify and to protect your furniture and surrounding items. The term "campaign hardware" derives from the 18th and 19th centuries, when English officers demanded high-quality, portable furniture while on military marches. The recessed hardware and brass corners allowed furniture to nestle together in a compact stack, and prevented scratches while stowed in the back of a bumpy horse-drawn wagon. Once unpacked and in the tent, however, the furniture served as a beautiful reminder of home.
What's included
(1) Solid Brass 2'' x 3/4'' Box Corner
Technical Details
- Solid brass box corner
- Polished finish
- Actual dimensions: 2-1/16'' x 2-1/16'' x 13/16''
- Surface-mount
Installation and Care Instructions:
- Measure and mark hole fixings with a pencil, preferably onto a strip of masking tape that will help to steady the drill.
- Drill a pilot hole as a lead for the wood screw.
- Remember, the included wood screws are made of brass so never overtighten or attempt to drive without a pilot hole, as this can cause them to break off in the wood.
- Occasional use of a damp cloth, and the use of quality wax polish is recommended to maintain the lustre.

The brass box corners were chosen to give the campaign desk built a more finished and realistic look. Plus they would protect the corners of the desk.

You'll laugh: but, we recently rescued an American Greyhound puppy. As puppies do, ours chewed the corner of two very expensive cherry kennels. These corners will be much less expensive than refinishing the kennels.

What size are the screws?
Mark C
on Jun 10, 2016
how thick is the metal?
Yuriko K
on Mar 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 1/16" thick. I was very pleased with this item. Looks good mounted flush to surface or on the surface. The screws are a bit weak however. You must drill hole first then still be very careful with screwing in. You may even want to buy extras. Good luck.

I have an old dresser with corner and leg protectors..can they be removed without destroying the dresser?
Sarah K
on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would say it depends on a couple of things. First - if this is an antique it might hurt the value to replace brass etc. Second - if they are held on with screws, can you remove them. If not, do the holes in the new corners line up with the old ones? If they are different, then it doesn't much matter if the old screws come out. I used mine on an old wood tackle box - because the old ones had fallen off. Purely utilitarian.

Case for flintlock pistols I built.
The brass corners were what I needed for my reproduction 18th century case for my colonial flintlock pistols, also used stop hinges & full mortise chest lock.

Perfect fit and appearance
I affixed these brass corners over damaged wooden corners on two coffee tables. The tables now look terrific, the damage is hidden, and the antique brass is a perfect style match - and the job was a snap.

Product is OK but only because no other options available.
Metal for quite thin but the real problem is that the mounting screws are located such that the ones nearest the corners intersect and interfere with each other.
