Completed both pieces

Dwight L. from Brooklyn Park, MN Posted June 7, 2014
I have completed both these items (purchased separately) and they are very good. I have used acrylic for the ice cream scoops knowing they will probably get put into a dishwasher. So far the acrylic is holding up well in use at home. A few weeks ago I have an acrylic scoop being used in a camp dining room that will probably be going through a Hobart dish washer. I asked the chef to let me know how it holds up. No report as of yet. Pizza cutter probably could be registered as a lethal weapon--heavy and well made. I have used hardwood for the handles and agree that a 1/2" drill bit works well. I have had the best luck installing the threaded insert by cutting the allen wrench (supplied) in two and inserting the straight piece of the wrench into a Jacobs chuck installed in the tailstock of the lathe and manually turning the scoop handle (still in the headstock chuck) in half turn increments or so and backing out again (like you were tapping threads in metal). Addition of wax on the insert helps reduce the friction. This procedure eliminates getting the insert crooked and cracking the blank.

Made these sets as Christmas gifts....

John N from Winthrop, WA Posted December 26, 2011
Made these sets as Christmas gifts. Had to change the threaded insert for a t-nut as we had 3 unsuccessful tries with enlarged bit/placing insert prior to turning, etc., absolutely could not get Marblewood to work. Worked on Black Walnut, Mahogany, Rosewood and Olivewood, Maple will work as well. So LOVE this hardware! Ice Cream Scoops work fabulous. Plan on making more for our local Farmer's Market. Well worth getting this set. Avid woodworker with years of experience.

The Pizza Cutter is incredible...very heavy...

Dan F from Tomball, TX Posted November 28, 2011
The Pizza Cutter is incredible...very heavy duty! The specified drill size for hardwood handles is way too small and the nut insert cracked both my tiger eye maple and burled walnut handles. I finally used a 1/2" bit successfully...the threads still had plenty of grip and there was no need for epoxy.
