I have used titebond 3 ultimate wood glue for cutting boards. After sanding all sides of the cutting boards and finishing with a food safe varnish (general finishes), I don't believe the glue is exposed to the surfaces of the product.

I agree with the answer, I use Titebond 3 on cutting boards and on turned pieces which may eventually become utilitarian bowls and such. With food-safe finishes, oils (I prefer walnut) and beeswax, they are pretty safe all round.

Thanks for info. I use mineral oil from drug store because people may have nut allergies plus mineral oil 2 bucks at walmart, combine with beeswax.
Excellent thought. Mineral oil would work well, but sometimes it does not dry well. I do, however, let people know that I use walnut oil. IF they have the nut allergy, I can re-make (or do a special order) mixed with what they need.
Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue is the first one-part, water cleanup wood glue ... sands easily without softening and is FDA approved for indirect food contact

Does this product have a shelf life??
Tedthered
on Jul 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I buy a gallon at a time and date the bottle. I do pour glue into a Glue-bot to make applying the glue easier. and shake the gallon jug about 30 seconds before putting it away. If the glue starts to get a little thick or a shorter setup time, I found shaking the glue bottle vigorously for about 5 minutes will restore the shelf life some. I have had glue bottles longer than a year and not had problems.

I'm sure it does but I have never found an exact answer. I normally buy my glue from a retailer that has good product turn-over thinking his glue might be fresher. I mark the date I purchased it and always store it in 50+ degree temps. I always get at least a year out of it. If it gets too thick or doesn't smell right, throw it out, no sense in ruining a nice glued-up top because of old glue.

most definitely it has a shelf life. I put the date I buy it on the front in magiv marker. after one year I start watching it closely and when it gets too thick, I throw it out. shelf life depends on when the glue was manufactured, the ambient temps in which it is stored and how exposed it has been to air. there is no set rule, but get suspicious after one year in your possession.

On this type of project the importance really needs to be placed on removal of the old glue and any contaminates such as wax or oils. Being an inside job the type of glue then would depend on how long you want to work with the pieces. Titebond makes 3 primary wood glues from slow to quick setting (type III slowest). You could also use a white glue PVA, PVC or two part types of glues. I have all Titebond and some white glue.I use for my wood projects.

That really is dependent on the type and condition of the glue. If it is antique the glue is most likely hyde glue and you could use hot water or a hair drier to loosen and remove. other types usually will give up to a paint scraper or chisel that's not too sharp or even a broad screwdriver. The most difficult would be a 2 part epoxy and you can only hope that it's hold on the wood is not too strong or have a lot of coarse grade sandpaper.
This is what I used on my dresser with red oak drawer sides and hard oak runners. I can say it HOLDS! I messed up on one of the drawers and tried to disassemble it to make corrections but wound up with firewood in doing so.

When you buy it, put the date on the bottle. One year later throw it away and buy a new one. Keep the bottle tightly capped. Glue interacts with water or air to solidify. Finally keep the bottle go glue from hi heat or low cold.

Does it dry clear? Does it accept paint well?

BEST ANSWER: If you want a clearer glue, you should use a white glue similar to Titebond I. The Titebond III does dry a light brownish color. But if you have 2 properly prepared edges to be glued you won't have any to color to show. Titebond I, Titebond II, or Titebond III are stainable and paintable.

Tightbond II is the one for outdoor use and would most likely be the best choice in that line. If you are not soaking the project I don't see a problem. If so I would look to a marine 2 part glue or some other marine solution to be sure.

Good product
I am not sure what to say for this review other than this makes jug number two of this product for me. With all honesty, I was equally pleased with a jug of TB 2 for my type of works. I am of the opinion 3 is more desirable should I come up with an outdoor job so I am pleased to recommend it for all around versatility. I have had good results and the extra cost is minimal especially if you catch it on sale as I did this time around.

Very User Friendly
This glue is very user friendly in that it gives you plenty of working time to clamp your wood pieces together. I highly recommend this product to others and will definitely use again.

Always for Outdoor Projects!
I'm a fan of Titebond II actually for most indoor projects, but I also like to make feeders and bird houses etc. for my bird friends. For that I always use Titebond III and even during the cold and wet Ohio Winters the glue joints never fail to hold.

One glue type handles many mediums.
Very excellent for bonding various types of wood. Also for bonding pottery or ceramics when you can’t bring yourself to throw it away. I figure if it’s good for exterior, should be good for interior. That way I only need one type for all.

Best wood glue in the business!
I absolutely love titebond wood glues. I've never had issues with any of their products. I would definitely recommend theirs over any other wood glues on the market.

If I was allowed only one kind of glue...It would be Titebond III
I have been using Titebond III for about 20 years. Great for outdoor as well as indoor projects. I inlaid my cedar back gate with some left over pressure treated wood. It was glued in with Titebond. This was done in 2006. The gate is south-facing and takes a beating from the sun as well as our weather. All of the pieces are as solid as the day they were put in.
My practical nature asks "why buy several kinds when one kind will do everything? ".

Highly Rated
Constantly rated as the best wood glue for holding power, open time (i.e. time to get your clamps set right), and water proof. Needs to be shaken. Can be a little runny. Overall, my favorite glue.

Only one disavantage
If your gluing Aromatic Red Cedar and finishing with a water base polyurethane, be careful to not get the glue on your boards. The oils in the Aromatic Red Cedar will bleed into the glue. And when you go to water base polyurethane the wood, you will get a greenish tint from the areas of the glued surfaces. We do not see this problem with any of the other woods. We do recommend Titebond 3 for your gluing needs for its longer setup time and waterproof qualities. Its well worth the extra cost.

The Titebond 3 is one of the best products I've ever used. If you use large quantities as I do you need to try the gallon size.

Great glue
Just built 15 exterior sash windows out of KD redwood and glued them up with tote bond III. Standard bottle works better than most. Glue cleans easy with damp cloth and super strong. glue takes a little while to set up which is good for big projects where moderate assembly is required. (I.e. 7 piece sash window.)If it runs and is allowed to dry, it will stain wood, so I recommend glueing followed by wiping with damp cloth. Great product!

I use it to make cutting boards. I made 50 this year. Each board has 7 to 9 pieces of wood. Our club sells them at the Erie County Fair and we give the money to Make A Wish.

stronger than the wood itself
This glue is very strong. I used it to glue together a case I was building. Made a mistake and tried to take it apart. It was pine. I ended up breaking the wood instead of coming apart at the glue joint....
