Calculating the Number and Rating of Lid Supports
Use the following formula to determine the optimal number and rating of lid supports:
Lid width (front to back) x lid weight in pounds / 2 = Inch-lbs. of support required.

Example, using an 18" wide lid weighing 12 lbs: (18 x 12)/2 = 108. Therefore, either two 45-55 or one 95-125 Inch-lbs support would be an appropriate choice.

Excellent

Dwayne Posted May 30, 2014
I made a toy box for my grandson. The lid was pine 41x24. I made the mistake of getting lid supports from the local home center. They were useless. I got 2 of these and they work flawlessly. The formula to decide the set was perfect. They installed in just a few minutes. Everyone is happy. Now I get to make another for the granddaughter. Thank you so much for this product!

Works well

I built two blanket chests 35 years ago which my children used for toy chests. Without this sort of lid support there were many complaints of banged fingers. The lids are 44"x17" made of 3/4" oak. Heavy! I tried one support which was only able to slow the decent of the heavy lid. But with 2 supports, it is excellent. Having tried these on my son's chest, I will order 2 more to modify my daughter's blanket chest.

Nice product

Follow the ordering instructions and you shouldn't have a problem.
I got two for an old toybox that I restored and they work perfect. They hold the lid at any position without worry of it falling. Bonus: its U.S. made.
