Calculating the Number and Rating of Lid Supports
Use the following formula to determine the optimal number and rating of lid supports:
Lid width (front to back) x lid weight in pounds / 2 = Inch-lbs. of support required.

Example, using an 18" wide lid weighing 12 lbs: (18 x 12)/2 = 108. Therefore, either two 45-55 or one 95-125 Inch-lbs support would be an appropriate choice.

Excellent safety feature

GrandpaJohn Posted May 7, 2014
Excellent safety feature for my two grand daughters toy chests! Just happened to see this item in the 2014 Master Catalog. Stopped work on the chests until the supports arrived. Glad I waited. Holds the lid up and prevents sudden drop on little fingers. I liked them so much that I have ordered some larger ones to use on larger oak blanket chests that I made 35 years ago for their parents who can remember getting their fingers banged by falling lids.

Bought this on recommended calculations for...

Bought this on recommended calculations for spring strength, and was uncertain it would work, but mounted it upside down to facilitate a flush mounted lid with hinges vertical between the surfaces and it works a treat. Weight size calculations were spot on and the lid stays just where its opened to and closes easily. Great product and good help from Rockler staff

We use these lid supports for all of our toy box and toy chest applications at  woodtoybox.com. We highly recommend these supports for child safety.
