Poor directions

I'm a beginning woodworker, not a guitar player. I don't know a tuning machine from a tuner and there are no diagrams to help. Haven't finished it yet-may have to go to a guitar store to help me ID the parts.

For someone like myself...

The guitar wood is nice and the kit components seem acceptable, but the instructions are so incomplete that for someone like myself who is new to guitars there are too many opportunities to go wrong. Parts are mentioned without explaining what they are, leaving the builder to figure it out or go elsewhere for definitions. Instructions for attaching the rosette (a decorative circle around the sound hole) say to peel it as though it were a sticker. Only after destroying it trying to get a peel started did I find out it really was a water decal. Why couldn’t they have said so? Even worse, after following instructions to clamp the neck while gluing it to the guitar body I discovered the neck was bent down where it was clamped, forcing a convex curve to the neck and resultant buzzing of the strings. They could have emphasized the importance of keeping the neck straight, in which case a thin shim would have done the trick. I am giving two stars for the wood of the guitar and one extra for customer service, which was very responsive in replacing two missing components.

Not advisable

The quality of the kit is good. And the finishing kit from Behlen is actually quite excellent. But the instructions are so poor on this kit that it makes it quite frustrating, does not really tell you the proper order for assembling and gluing. Many items should be done after finishing. If you buy one the best suggestion is to watch the excellent finishing video on Youtube an you will garner quite a bit of information about the proper finishing assembly sequence.
