Great Product for 5" and 6" Flexible pipe
Posted February 20, 2014
I have been using the 5" and 6" ends to connect my flexible pipe. I recently upgraded my dust collection flexible piping and machine ports from 4" to 5" and 6". This adapter has come in handy for connecting to my 6" ports. I replaced the 4" port on my Jet JJ-12 with a 6" port. The jointer works much better with 5" flexible piping and the new 6" port.

This product works as intended and is very universal. To all those who left negative reviews, you probably only know HALF the story of adaptors like this. Hoses and tools can fit either outside or INSIDE the adaptor. There are twice as many sizes there than you might realize. I have a 5 hp Craftsman shop vac wall mount, 5 HP Shop Vac roll around and a 1 hp portable. I have 4", 2.5", 2", 1 3/4" & 1 1/2" tools, hose and fittings. They all connect together if you are creative and this adaptor fits them all. I used this to connect a Jet 650 bag vac to a 2" custom made vac box that cleans PET bottles. It works great.

Do not be swayed by the poor reviews some have given this product. They failed to read the provided measurements of the piece, and then they blame it for their own lack of planning. If you first understand it's proper use, which is to join tubing of different sizes, and then make sure it supports the tubing you plan to use BEFORE you purchase this piece, it will work wonderfully for you. As for cutting it, a hacksaw with a somewhat aggressive blade works wonderfully, as does a Japanese cross-cut saw or even a fine-tooth gent's saw or dovetail saw. I would not advise using a bandsaw, as the risk is simply too high for the reward of time saved. It takes less than 30 seconds to cut this with any of the above methods, and none risk severing fingers or other appendages. I will admit, this is not my first choice for an adapter. But for when you have strange sizes to mate or you simply can not find the proper adapter due to stocking issues, etc., this will do just fine. I keep one of these and a Shop-Vac style on hand at all times, and they have come in handy more than once.

Anyone wonder why something got to market, this is one of those. I have been looking hard at how to use this and I think the picture of it being uses as a hat has got my vote. I put it right up there with trying to get the 12' orange hose kit to fit the oraange crevice tool and the orange bench sweep that it comes with. Nice hose, but fit on the tools is not.

My Ridgid shop vac has a 1 1/2" hose and my Ridgid tablesaw has a 3 1/2" port. This "universal" adaptor has neither the 1 1/2 nor the 3 1/2. duh - I didn't measure before buying.
