This product is so good it's boring. No drama with this finish. You can apply it anyway you'd like, anything from a paper towel to spraying. I have used it directly on the lathe as well as just wiping it on. It dries within minutes so you can add multiple coats and finish your project in hours not days. The fast drying also means virtually no nibs in the finish. You can sand between coats if you would like but it is certainly not a requirement.

I've used this finish for just about every turning project I've done, and I think it turns out great every time. Its quick dry time is very helpful, especially when applying multiple coats.

This was my first experience with this finish, and with a water based finish. I've always stuck with oils and lacquers in the past, but I was making a cake stand on my new lathe and wanted something food safe. This is basically a water based polyurethane from what I can tell, I may be wrong. Since I had some 'bowl' components and spindle components I actually finished off the lathe, with a paper cloth and micro mesh sanding pads. The 2 second review is that this is my new favorite finish- period. I had been spraying lacquer on most of my work because of the depth, non yellowing, quick drying time and easy sanding, plus easy repairs down the road. But to spray I have to have a day outside that is dry, warm, and not windy. I don't have a spray booth, don't think the wife wants me spraying in the basement. This stuff wipes on easy, dries in about 5 minutes by the time I finished the second part of the stand the first part was dry sands really nicely, and leaves as glossy of a finish as you want. You can wipe on 3-5 coats pretty quickly- it does build slowly like any wiping finish, but since it's dry so fast it doesn't matter. Plus no dust nibs. It's not a friction polish which is what I was expecting. Wipe it on quickly and step back. remove any obvious excess, but I found this stuff levels very well. My only questions are durability- it supposedly is as hard as their flooring urethanes, for my uses that's good enough. I'm guessing it doesn't repair easily since it's a polyurethane, but I don't know. I'm using this on all my small projects from here on out. for big furniture 'heirloom' projects I'll probably stick with lacquer for future repairability- but for smaller handheld projects this should fit the bill. I bet it would be nice on pens.
