Pen assembly

I would agree with John M about the fit of the pieces. However, with some coaxing and several applications of thin CA to fill the small gaps, I achieved a really nice completed pen. I used a little touch of Maloof PolyOil to darken the wood and 4 coats of medium CA for the final finish. Keep the tweezers and magnifying glass handy when you put this one together.

I would agree with John M about the fit of the pieces. However, with some coaxing, I was able to get all the pieces assembled with some small gaps. I then loaded the assembly up with thin CA, allowed it to dry and repeated the process 3 times. Although it looked pretty ugly prior to turning, it actually came out very nice with some slightly heavier shadow lines where the small gaps existed. Used Maloof PolyOil to darken it up a bit and 4 coats of medium CA for the final finish. I think it turned out really nice. Keep the tweezers and magnifying glass handy when your doing this one.

The design and concept is very good, however the fit leaves a fair bit to be desired. A couple of suggestions, use epoxy dyed with the fill needed for the small pieces. Also be sure to use Sierra Vista kits 70A Bushing to be sure the end result is what you expect. Overall the artistry of woodworker's pens is very impressive. Hopefully the kit fit and finish will improve.
