Excellent reading - covers the facts and more

Tom Posted September 2, 2014
Received the book on Thursday, and Friday night, after work, I had spent two to three hours reading the book. It is worked real simple and easy to understand with lots of explanatory pictures, with options on how to use different bits to get the same results. This will be my go to book for techniques and how to's. Working on a small chest for granddaughter, didn't want the corner configuration like that of the toy chest, screwed corners with overlays; had seen this router bit in the catalog about making corners, the 45 miter box and the drawer corner bit. So I purchased the corner bit, thinking how hard can it be. After using some scrap pieces of oak plywood (not a real good choice but) I figured out how to make it work and it works like a charm. Don't need glue but, a little goes a long way. The book showed me how to set up, how to align the boards for proper depth, its all there. But then again I had help, I used the template setup tool. Really nice, too. If your are into using the router and new at the process, this book is a MUST. I like the hard cover and the slick pages. It wont stay in the work shop - its to good a book. Thanks.

This is my first router book,...

This is my first router book, and I don't expect to need another one anytime soon. For comparison, I thought Tolpin's Table Saw Magic was good, and it's still essential, but Hylton's router book shows what a difference it makes when author, editor, and layout people pay attention to detail. Clear, concise writing, beautiful photos, consistent layout with handy cross references, safety tips, accurate plans and material/cut lists, this book has it all. On top of that, Hylton offers thoughtful analyses of numerous, sometimes bewildering choices of routers, accessories, and techniques. I'll be occupied for months or years building jigs and fixtures from this book, and I haven't seen a wasted large-format page yet out of 376. A masterpiece, all for less than the price of one good bit. I don't see how anyone who owns a router can afford not to have it.

Very good book, easy to read...
