Generally Works Well - Recommended

MarkM Posted September 22, 2014
Other's have commented about the need to create an accurate template for drilling the holes. This I highly recommend. Also, I replaced the mounting screws that were provided with 1/4" x 2" lag bolts.

I mounted these castors on a heavy hardwood workbench that weighs 400 lbs. Note that the castor set is rated for 600 lbs. With the 400 lbs. load however it is not easy to flip the castors up with your toe. I use a 2"x2" by 30 stick of wood as a lever to release them. To engage them I need to stand with weight on my heel. I have them set so that they raise the bench about 1/2' when extended. When on the wheels the bench rolls very smoothly.

I highly recommend these, as long as you can get to them easily and are willing to use a homemade release tool if they are mounted on a heavy item.

Great!

Used them this time instead of locking casters as I needed this bench build to be solid unless moved. They worked great.

What do you expect?

I got 2 of these on sale. They are heavy!
Installation, pretty simple really. I put them on steel leg tables, so they included what some call cheap screws, were of no use to me. $4.11 later I had nice bolts and nylon nuts.

Usage, well, that's easy too. One table has legs that come down at an angle. When rolling in one direction half of the casters let the table scoot on high spots in the floor while the other 2 ride nice and high. Huh, I should move them down a little. Because of this I trimmed my template (recommended by others) for the second table. I have a table I can hardly move due to weight and the steel legs. I have to lift to get the casters to engage this thing is so heavy. But it does it, and nicely too.

Some have mentioned the "hard let down". These are $15 casters. Soft down casters will cost you $60 each. You are moving a piece of shop equipment, not a china cabinet full of Faberge Eggs.

Most notable thing to me? They are wide too. I put them where it made sense for me to put them, but they add more than a few inches of clearance to your table in front/back or side-to-side. Take this into account of you are looking to wedge your table/bench into tight spots.

Second most notable thing? These are 4 free-floating casters. Each of which has a mind of its own. Just like they don't collapse like a falling feather they also don't read your mind and go where you want without a little coercing. I won't be moving these around in a garage with a car in it.

Short story, if I needed another set, I'd buy another set of these. Nice price, seem to be pretty solidly built and the do what they are advertised to do.
