1/4'' Collet Reducer for Musclechuck™ Quick-Change Router Chuck

Item #
44454
Rating:
100% of 100

This collet reducer slips into the Quick-Change Musclechucks™ (#43849 and #47222, sold separately) to accommodate router bits with a 1/4'' shank. Without the reducer the Musclechuck only accepts 1/2'' shank router bits, so this reducer allows for a wider use of bits. This cam free reducer means that there is no damage to the router bit shank and no slipping. Care must be taken to ensure that the slot in the reducer lines up with the slot in the Musclechuck.

1/4" collet for Musclechuck
When going to use 1/4" shaft router bits. This one is quick to insert and tight gripper. Works well in my Porter Cable 892. Being use with my Shark CNC Router HD3 Extended Bed. Allows quick bit change and back to CNC carvings.

Handy tool
This Reducer was purchased with my Musclechuck, works well and saves the time of changing collet for my quarter inch bits. The Musclechuck doesn't work that well but this is a winner.

This full split collet with thumb nail relief end will allow me to get better alignment for my 1/4" router bits than the currently owned 1/2 split collet. The addition of the thumb nail relief is just an extra bonus and will make changing of the bits all the more easer!

Can I use this in my Craftsman router which has a 1/2 inch collet?
Tom D on Apr 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It might work if the collet were very tight but was designed to go with the Musclechuck.
When using the reducer, I find the Musclechuck's locking screw has to be extra-tight, which leads me to think
the reducer would not hold very well in a standard 1/2" router collet which is not as deep as
the Musclechuck. Unless your collet has a depth of at least an inch, I wouldn't recommend the reducer.
Just got the porter cable 7538 3-1/4 peak HP Router was wondering if this would work with it along with a QC musclechuck?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, I have used these things together, No problem, and a great convenience, especially if you use a router table.
Somehow my collet broke into pieces. Would I be able to use this as a replacement? I cannot find a replacement for my collet no matter where I look. I have a dewalt 613 (I think) and a very old porter cable router.
Heather T on Dec 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: A dewalt 613 may be the DNP613 compact router. I would replace the collet with a muscle chuck unit correctly selected for the model router you are using. Generally if the router is 1/2" collet capable then a muscle chuck will function well replacing the factory collet and collet retaining nut. I cannot say on the Porter Cable without a model number. Go to the musclechuck dot com website for correct type selection.
Good luck Heather T
