I've been looking all over for a bearing-ed dovetail bit, so I have less worry while using a dovetail jig. This one fills the bill for me.

dovetail router bit
I have not used it yet. It should be fine. I had one years ago and had no problem with it.

Woodworking Experience:
Too large for 1/2 inch drawer stock
This bit may work with 3/4 or larger stock, but it is too long for standard 1/2 in drawer stock. Even with a 1/8 inch filler beneath the jig tines, the depth of cut when the bearing was engaging the guide times was way too deep. At the right depth, the bearing misses the guide. This needs to be mentioned in the description. Would be great to have a smaller bit with the same bearing arrangement.

Doesn't fit
I have a Rockler jig and this bit doesn't fit. It's guide can't register the jig without being way further out than the depth register on the jig.

I have a Dewalt compact router DWP611 PK that I cannot use bushing guides with, to work my dovetail jig. Hopefully this bit will take the place of the bushing guide.

With this router, I have learned that I must take the motor out of the housing to change bits. This prevents me from installing a dovetail bit and using a bushing guide.

thought I would try powered router dovetails. It works very good, but I like doing hand made dovetails better. Just personal preference. If you have a lot of work to do, this will save you time, a lot of time.

Does the bearing on the bit shank take the place of the 7/16" collar that is customarily installed in the router bottom plate to follow the combs on the jig?
Imjman on Apr 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: NO, IT DOES NOT HAVE A 7/16" GUIDE BEARING! After reading the answers that it does I purchased it and found a 1/2" bearing!
Are replacement bearings available?
