Miller bits and dowels
I prefer wood joinery, mostly using dowels, some I make. Glue-up with dowels is high anxiety time for me. I am almost done making four screens and gates, cedar and redwood, to share less of our back yard with the deer who own this place. Miller dowels made assembly so easy. Alignment of materials is accurate and results are attractive. I chose oak dowels which I leave proud to create a visual pattern. Easily done with the Miller bit. It is very sharp. And, the dowels are well made to match the bit. I enjoy this method so much that I ordered the mini bit and dowels to try on small furniture builds.

Ease of Use and Smart Design
The drill bit cut like butter, and the stepped design made inserting the dowels pins much easier. I used the 1x size for 3/4" pine boards and it worked well.

The dowels pins are longer than regular ones though, so in some situations that's good to keep in mind. I'd certainly use this product again though.

Careful with going to the last step
The last step on this bit tend to have a lot of tear out, no matter how careful you are. I'm drilling into soft eastern white pine and the bit tends to tear on the last step of the bit.

It is a great product, but the frustration with the tear out on the front face of your work piece isn't worth the extra stars.

For the 1X dowels what is the diameter of the first step?
TexasWood on Sep 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The smallest diameter is 3/16" and about 11/16" long, next diameter is 15/64" about ¾" long, next diameter which is grooved, is 9/32" about ¾" long. and the plug diameter is 13/32" about 7/6" long. All diameters were measured with a digital caliper, lengths are very close, not exact.
How long (maximum length) does this go into the wood?
lauriesdecor on May 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: set a miller dowel next to the drill bit. Mark the drill bit with a magic marker , so you know the maximum length of your dowel. I drill my hole in the wood ,so there is about 1/8 to 1/16 of an inch sticking out. That helps not to dent your wood, when you hammer the glued dowel in place. After the glue has dried , I trim of the excess with a flush cut saw
