I have an open cockpit biplane that I built. I have the instrument panel set up to resemble the biplanes of the ‘30’s and I turned down some brass pipe to make bezels for each instrument. I wanted to create a “Jules Verne’s” look so this little clock matches and looks great on my panel! And a great price, too!

Steampunk & Star Wars Brass Pocketwatch
It seems to work just fine. I had some trouble getting it to fit down inside the recess, but sanding down the upper edge of the recess (so it wasn't so sharp) helped immensely. Now it's easy to insert.

I know this is a woodworking site and I'm a metalsmith, but I'm not aware of anyone else making a clock piece that I can insert into a pocketwatch. I really think these inserts could open up pocketwatch-making to people who aren't actually watchmakers.
Seems to work well. Sanding the upper edge of the recess (so it's not too sharp) helps it fit.

It looks like it'll work well for a custom steampunk / Star Wars -themed pocketwatch that I'm making for a friend. Jewelrysmiths need clock inserts too :)

What holds the clock in the mortise? How deep does the mortise need to be?
William E on Apr 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's a friction fit with a rubber o ring holding it in place. The hole only needs to be deep enough for the bezel to sit flush on the surface. A Forstner bit is a must to get a perfectly consistent diameter
how is this insert held in the case opening?
A shopper on Apr 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There is a flexible rubber gasket around the circumfrence of the clock. It form a tight invisible bond between the clock and the case.
