Better than I hoped!
In spite of the complimentary reviews here I was reticent to buy because of the price. Since a shutter company quoted my first project at $1200.00 I bought the jig. Wow, what a quality tool. There is only one problem, and not with the jig but with the pins that are currently being shipped. The first package of pins fit perfectly in the stiles. The second and all subsequently ordered pins do not. The later pins are just a silly millimeter longer. I tried extending the bit in the ¼ jig but could not. Now I just take an ordinary ¼ bit and drill out another 1/16 or so in each hole. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble but it goes quickly and solves the problem.

Because all of my shutters are exterior I wanted to use either cedar or pressure treated pine. I bought the Rockler router bit to make the louvers and discovered that cedar was a bad idea as the tear out was too much, even for an exterior shutter that will normally not be seen up close.

The problem with pine was expense, not to mention milling a ¾ board down to 3/8. Then, at an unnamed big box store, I found ½”X6”X6’ PT Pine Dog Ear fence pickets for $1.75 each. I could get four 16” X 3-½ louvers from each one. The problem with this great idea is none of the treated lumber in my part of the country is available KDAP (Kiln Dried After Treatment). Most of the pickets had a moisture content around 80%. I had to rough cut the louvers, stick them, put a fan on them, and wait. I decided 15% moisture would be about right and that took about a week.

Once dry about 15% warped or split and could not be used. However, I wound up with 100 louvers for the price of 30 fence pickets.

The last thing I learned is for fixed louvers drill the pin holes while they are square.. that is before they are shaped. That way they fit solidly and squarely in the vice and in the jig, making clamping unnecessary.
Believe it or not, this is the garage.

Shutter jig
This jig made the plantation shutters a snap, especially if you've had any experience making cabinet doors. Make sure you do all of your finishing before you assemble the shutters.

shutter gig works well. Had a problem with
1/4 in shutter pattern bit. on first use it exploded as removed from the jig. after much searching found all parts and reassembled appears the set screw was not tightened. much trial and error to get proper depth reset. I checked set screws on other bits before use.

Why did you choose this?
Rockler Store
Searched for router bits for shutters, found Rockler bits and shutter plan which included parts list, liked system, cost / features were reasonable, considering the cost ordering shutters online. The system will pay for itself after one or two windows and we'll probably do windows all over the house, so it looked like a good way to save $$$ with fun projects, so I got this.

Why is the maximum width 24"?
Lynn M on Jul 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Shutters wider than 24” are generally not recommended due to potential issues with warping and sagging that may occur. Please note that you do not enter the window size in the shutter wizard. You enter the individual shutter size instead. As example, a window of a 29” width would usually be made with 2 shutters, so one would enter a width of 14-1/2”.
what is the min thickness of the stiles and rails?
Ted M on Nov 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: PROBABLY SOMETHING LIKE .010 UNDER 1 1/16" WOULD BE BARE BONES MINIMUM. THERE SOULD BE SOME TYPE OF "DRIP RAIL" BELOW THE BOTTOM LOUVER, MOSTLY FOR PROTECTION FROM WIND. IF YOUGET TOO NARROW, YOU LOSE THE PROTECTION. I PREFER THE LOOK OF 1 1/8" OVER THE 1 1/16" THE DIRECTIONS CALL FOR.. SEEMS LIKE THE 1/32" IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND EACH LOUVER MAKES THE SHUTTER LOOK A LITTLE "BEEFER". HOPE THIS HELPS.
I want to make shetters for outside, will basswood be ok?

BEST ANSWER: Not really a durable exterior wood, white oak or an exotic mahogany (african ),even white pine would work out a bit better and easier to work but still not as durable as the other two choices.but with a good dip after assembly and a few coats of a good oilbased finish they should last a long time
Do I need to buy a template set for each window or can I use it for every window?
Melina V on Jun 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There are multiple ways to fabricate your shutters. Obviously the templates are designed to aid in the fabrication of the shutters. When I make shutters, the bulk of the holes drilled are made by a drill press. The templates can make the work go faster. I am not sure what templates you are referring to other than the jigs offered by Rockler. Once any of the jigs are purchased, they can be used multiple times. Plan preparation and accurate measurements are mandatory requirements for any project, but very important for shutter fabrication. Good luck.
I want to build 3.5 “ fixed shutters. It appears in the Rockler videos that the assembled louvers are pretty tight on top of each other. Can the louver’s fixed angle be changed to allow more air to pass through the shutter?
steve l on May 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: with this jig and setup the shutters overlap about a half inch. you could space them slightly further apart, but I'm not sure there would be much benefit. There is not going to be any noticeable difference in Air flow and you will have to lay out everything manually and change the heights of the stiles. Short answer: don't bother. I don't think it would look any better - you risk letting too much light through when they are closed.

just my thoughts - Best
When the shutter is completed it is attached to the window PVC ? Or do we have a frame to build ?
MArie on Aug 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I built a frame around the windows. Needed something to attach the shutter to, moved away from the window so the lovers would open and close,
The Shutter System says it's for 3 1/2" lovers, but the second video says for 2 1/2". I want to make some fixed 2 1/2" fixed louvre shutters. Will it work for both?
Nancy W on Apr 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There are different jigs for the 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 inch shutters. The processes are the same for either size shutters, just make sure that you buy the right size jig.
Can I use cedar picket fencing?
Jan M on Jun 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not. Obviously key is to get the dimensions the same as the stock lumber (width) so it still works in the jig.
I have an oversized window 82in high by 32in wide. It's a standard door size. How should I design the 3 1/2 in shutter?
Elvio F on Jun 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I only made moveable shutters, but the basic plans from Rockler should be the same
