Easy and Straightforward - Great Gift
Love making these kits. Simple enough so that you don't need special tools, but variable enough so that your hands aren't tied with design. You can make it however you like.

Everyone loves getting these screwdrivers
Turned these from some pecan wood (some of it wormy). I varied the shape based on feel. I only screwed up one handle (drilled off-center after turning, made the tenon too large and then power sanded at an angle) and was able to salvage all the parts back out of it for turning a new handle. I strongly recommend putting a drill chuck on the tail stock and drilling that way. Sanded through 400 grit, boiled linseed, canned shellac, carnauba/beeswax final coat (homemade 50/50 hard puck), polished while turning.

Nice Kit
Bought this (2) based on other reviews and I am not disappointed. A quality product with all the components to build a 4-1 screwdriver (less wood); a great turning project. I am new to turning and someone suggested this kit as a good learning project; I agree.

Good Kit
Of the several screwdriver kits I have used, the one from Rockler seems to be the best quality. It is the only that I now purchase.

Great Unique Kit
Great kit, parts came clean and a quick wipe off gets the ready to go. Really like that they have the square nibs on the one side. Really sets it apart from other kits that only have regular and Phillips bits. Brass ferrule really adds class.

Screwdriver Kit
Have to be careful when drilling the hole for the insert and test the drill size I had to go down to a slightly smaller drill bit to have the insert fit snug. Overall very pleased with the purchase, price and ease of assembly

Is the ferrule necessary? I have no lathe so I plan to shape the handle with an octagonal cross section using hand planes. Making a proper fit to the ferule by whittling and sanding seems impractical. Suggestions for wood species to use if omitting the ferrule?
Kirk M on Jan 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The ferrule is used to prevent splitting from racking side-to-side motions or hitting the back of the handle. When working without a lathe you can do a decent job of fitting a ferrule with hand tools. Wrap the handle for protection, and put it in a vise. Use a fine saw blade to score a circle where you want the ferrule base to rest. Carefully cut around that place to the diameter of the inside measurement of the ferrule. Mark the inside dimension of the ferrule on the tool end of the handle. Then use a nice sharp chisel to pare the front of the handle down to meet the saw cut. As you approach the cut take thin slices as you work around the handle. Fit the ferrule but don't glue it. Remove it until you finish shaping the handle. Paul R
What is the inside dia of the brass ferrule? I have a left over piece of 1" koa. Will it fit?
Moonlighter on Nov 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The id of the ferrule is .81 in. So 1 inch stock will work fine
Is the Phillips/Slot #1 or 2?
Zelda C on Nov 23, 2018

Can I get this kit with a large and small Phillips and a large and small straight slot?
The square bit is useless for anyone I know.

BEST ANSWER: the one that i got had what you want. it looks like they changed it. i don't know why. mine is perfect.
