Woodworking Experience:
Appeared to be highest load bearing connectors. Needed to repair a bed whose side supports broke under excessive weight
from visiting guests. New sideboards and beefy connectors seems to be the solution.

Simple and effective. Would recommend, as another did, #9 screws, but #8's are adequate.

We have a curry maple poster bed and are installing a new bed frame , electric raise/lower head of bed, and the rails have a 1.5 inch box spring support screwed/glued. We would have to cut that off to provide the needed width for the new electric unit. This way we can use new 1 by 6 oak rails which give us the 58.5 inch width and the curry maple rails survive the day..Thanks for asking Bill

How much weight can these brackets support ?
Howard on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: a queen size bed with two people in it for sure without deflection of any sort
Do you need to set the rail piece back from the edge to fit securely? I have tested one and it is not snugging to the post.
Jay on Dec 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You have to have the edges of the hooks set back from the edge of the support by about a 1/16”. There is a built in positive lock design that needs this to hold tightly. It will lock in place but without that extra, it has enough end play to allow motion which will further open that slack and get worse.
What size bed rails do I need? I'm building a full size bed and would like to know what type of wood I should use and dimensions for each rail. For example, do I need a 2x6 rail to provide enough support if I'm using pine, or is a 1x6 good enough?
Chris S on Feb 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We built a bed for a customer using 1x6 rails and they worked great! I wouldn't suggest using a 1x6 if you're going to be placing any weight on them though, but 1x6 is enough for the "look" of a rail. The customer used their metal bed frame to support their mattress and box spring.
How much weight can they support?
A shopper on Jul 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I used them on a King size bed. I would say same capacity as a new bed. Since it was a King with very heavy mattress I did add a couple of legs on the slats but that was more due to the slats carrying a lot of the mattress weight.
Will this 5" bracket be able to support a pine 2x10 bed rail?
Tom R on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sure it would support a 2X10 bed rail, but I can't imagine why you would want a 2X10 rail!
How many mounted rail brackets are per pack?
panky on Jul 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There is 4 sets of brackets in each packet, four male and four female brackets ....
Why are these not recommended for bunk beds
Frank on Mar 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think the reason they don't recommend them for bunk beds is that they do not have a safety feature that locks them so someone from the bottom bunk could push the brackets loose on the top bunk. I did use them on bunk beds and I have had no problems.
will these brackets work with a plywood side rail ?
Terry P on Feb 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes I used a type sheet metal screw self tapping with moderate treads, fine treads will tear out wood screws don't have enough bit I had 3/4 inch ply and used 5/8 inch screws
Can i get the technical doucements with the brackets when I order them?
Harvey B on Jan 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The technical document is on the Rockler webpage where this item is found (scroll down until you see the link). Installation is rather easy. It is a two person job though. Good luck!
I am building a king size bed frame with 4x4 posts and 2x12 side, foot and head boards. Would two sets of these brackets be better than one set?
Tom T on Dec 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: On a King bed you will need some support on the cross rails under the mattress I would believe. That is how most new beds are made. You could use 2 sets not sure if needed esp if you use longer screws. They are pretty strong!
How wide is the part that goes on the leg?
myron s on Oct 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Roughly 1/2 inch.
Do I need a post or can I connect side rails direct to end rails with this?.
Chris N on Dec 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have connected them to posts and flat supports. Since they are surface mount can really connect to anything
Will these brackets work on metal 1-1/2" angle side rails?
Lawson C on Dec 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Probably not. You need a side rail that is as deep as the bracket is long, so you need a side rail about 5 inches high.
Can product be used to connect wood footboards?
Sharon T on Nov 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes I used them for both head and foot boards on a king size bed and they worked perfect
My husband bought an old bed that was quite lovely for an extra room we have. The things that hook the side rails to the headboard and footboard are missing on one end of one rail. This looks like it would fix it. What do you think?
Krystal S on May 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That is why I used this product. Worked great and was easy to do! Very stong!
Can I get just two?
Bridget on Oct 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can but if you are using this for a bed you need four - two for the headboard and two for the footboard or one for each corner of the bed. . We ordered two thinking that was all we needed but that was wrong obviously, so then we had to order two more! When taking the bed apart for any reason it just works better to have one for each of the four corners. We were very pleased with how they work, well worth it.
My father and I are building an upholstered bed, would these brackets work for use on the outside of the upholstery?
Lauren T on Jul 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. You will probably need to use longer screws if the upholstery has padding behind it. One of my students has built 3 beds to sell and the brackets worked very well.
I have a wooden headboard and footboard, but am missing the siderails. I was wondering if I could some how use this to convert and attach an existing bolt on bed frame to both the headboard/footboard? I have seen bed hook adaptors but they only have 2 larger hooks and the hardware on the head/footboard require 3 hooks.
J G on Oct 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: These side rail pieces (male) are designed to work with the surface mounted (female) pieces that come with set. There is a chance that they may fit with your existing headboard and footboard pieces but spacing would have to be identical. Failing that, just use the surface mounted pieces on your headboard and footboard and ignore the ones that you have (if you have room to fit them). I used these on a custom made bed frame that I made and they worked great.
Can I use on an 8"breed rail?
Ginger C on Jun 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Not sure what a Breed rail is. My bed sides were 8” wide and it worked perfectly. I just centered the bracket.
I can't find the 3 hook claw needed for my bed. How do I interchange it to use this one?
Shirley H on Sep 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need to be able to surface mount both components ("catch" and "claw") so that they can work as a set. As long as you can do that, these should work fine for you.
What will make my bed longer to a queen sizes from full size?
D U on Apr 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can make you side dimensions as long as you want (and the side board will support) - heavier board, longer span.
I have 4 in rails in an antique bed. Any suggestions?
Rick V on Apr 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have a 50 year old bed t] with the old hook and pin mounting system. The fit had loosed=ned and the bed creaked. I used the surface mount replacements but they didn't pull it together tight enough. I prefer the kind that have to be mortised in (with a chisel and a router). I used this kind on a bed I built and they are self tightening and will last forever. Mine were 5" high but the could be cut down to 4".Good luck.
Am a novice here. The supposed wood rail of a bed we have split bringing the head of the bed down on one side. See that the frame itself is made of particle board. The headboard and footboard seem solid. Would attaching these surface mounted brackets work over a reinforced rail? Please could you offer any advice?
Mathews on Sep 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would think a split would drop the side rail, not the head. Head is usually supported by the legs. Wondering if it was correctly assembled.
I have 2 bed post that extends 2 feet above the head board connecting to the bed post which carries the cross board supports and 2 of the same on the foot board. The post connect in 2 parts befor it screws into the corner bed post I need replacement parts. Some of these parts got bent and stripped out during a move. Can you help direct be to the hardware I need to purchase. It looks there is a male and female part. They both are fitted into both pieces of the post where the round base has a center screw bolt and the other the female sceptical. The base is connected by screws into the wood post. Same goes for the other side the conecting post?
Arcee on Jan 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am unable to make any sense of the damage your bed suffered. Specific hardware replacements for your bed are likely to be available only from the bed manufacturer. Look at the illustration of the Bed Rail Brackets to see how they get mounted. The slotted piece would normally mount on the post and the finger piece on the side rail. Unless the wood is splintered or otherwise too damaged to attach this set, it is likely appropriate to replace - as in "substitute for" - your damaged hardware.
what are the dimensions on this bracket? I see it is 5" long, how wide?
A shopper on Aug 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: For dimensions see technical document linked in this offering.
