Very bright lights!
I installed in my garage instead of incandescent. Twice the light and a fraction of the cost to run. Liked them so much I put some in my pole barn too!

LED’s Worth waiting for
I had waited for a while to make sure that LEDs would actually replace four, 48 inch fluorescent tubes. These are excellent units! Bright, white light, no hum, and They provide far more light than the four tubes they replaced.

Just what I needed!
Not for woodworking but I build large scale railroad cars and need to set hundreds of .090" dummy rivets in .095" holes. Was using a flashlight, not any more. Also, ordered another one (currently on backorder) FOR the wood shop. I will probably order more later!

New Shop lights
I replaced 3- 8' 2 tube commercial fixtures in my 24 x 36 shop. When I got the shipment my first thought was they were too small and too light to cover the entire shop. I have a high ceiling and the lights are up at 12' and 5 of the 4' fixtures light it up better than ever. Could not be happier with the purchase. And they also work on cold damp mornings which was a problem with the other fixtures. If I ever need fixtures for another place, I am buying these again.

Previously I purchased 2 and was amazed how well it lit up my shop area. It is 1/3 of a 40x80 metal building with the light hung 15 feet high. The coverage appears to be a cone of 120 degrees. These replace 7 fluorescent fixtures that were put up in 1980. It's like daylight!

Bought some for my shop to upgrade. Decided to upgrade my garage and pole barn too. Was two short so ordered these. Gone are 24 incandescent lights at 100 watts each. Now a lot happier with at least twice the brightness!

Are these lights hard wired or plug in? And if they are plug in, are they linkable (can they be plugged into each other)?
Tom D on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hard wired, not linkable.
Can it be mounted directly to a wall without using the hanging chains ?
Craig B on Nov 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the plastic, snap-on pieces (two) used for chain-mounting can be easily modified. The piece has a hook attached by a nut; when removed, other options may be used (e.g., washer / screw / anchor for drywall installation, etc.). The plastic attachments snap onto the fixture on the top; they may be relocated by sliding along the full-length of the fixture; and the fixture is relatively light. Once installed, be careful removing the snap-on piece from the plastic. It feels rigid; but, potentially breakable.
Can these lights be surface mounted or are they chain hung only?
Robert M on Nov 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Possibly.

Definitely designed to be hung. The switch is a chain and the power cord sprouts out from the top of the fitting. I'm also not sure if owing to heat disposition or some other safety precaution you should deviate from that arrangement. However mine just arrived and I would say it is entirely possible to mount direct to a surface. The hooks that attach the chain are just bolted into a plastic clip that then snaps onto the light, so they can be unscrewed and those clips attached directly. You're only issue will be the power cord would need some sort of recess. Better bet would be to add a simple stand off to the surface you're mounting the light to then screw the snap on bracket to that. The light is very low weight so does not seem like it would slide within clips but it's possible you would need to put a ledge underneath if orientating vertically on a wall (think shelf bracket) to prevent.
Do you need to pull the chain to turn them on each time or could you use a wall switch to power a receptacle without having to reach of to the chain?
Michael P on Dec 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have mine plugged into a switched outlet. The chain stays on and The Light is turned on/off at the door.
What is the temperature of the light?
Steve S on Jan 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Mine are hanging in an unheated detached garage so right now they are around 25 degrees.

If you are talking about color temperature, then the "Technical Details" list it at 4000K which is categorized as "Natural White" as opposed to "Warm White" which is around 2700K. I find higher Kelvin temperature lighting to be best for a workshop environment.
Are these dimmable?
Alans on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: NO ! They are not dimmable and to do so would void the warranty. (per the instruction sheet)
Anybody know if these lights work in low temperatures? I want to put one or two in my garage where it gets down to below zero at times.
Mux on Dec 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These lights don't have a ballast like fluorescent lights. They work perfectly in my shop; which is usually between 35° - 40°...until I turn on the Salamander.
Warranty ?
Donald on Nov 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 3 years limited warranty on this one.
What is the thickness/depth and width of this light?
Connie on Apr 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The width is 2 3/4 and the depth as best I can measure at the center is 1 3/16 at the thickest part, The cord exits on the back at one end. It appears these are made for hanging and not a flush mount arrangement. I bought them to replace older flouresent bulbs in my garage but I haven't hung them yet.
Are the light tubes replaceable?
John H on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: John, there are no light tubes. The LEDs are not replaceable but rated to last 50K hours (17 years at 8 hrs per day) according to the manufacturer. I have only had mine for a couple of months but expect them to last as long as I need without replacing tubes. My experience has been great. I added them to a darker area of my garage shop and boy do they work. They are the brightest lights in my shop, the others are standard fluorescents.
Does this light have any kind of shield on the sides to direct the light down and block the bright bulb from blinding a person's vision when looking at it from the side?
Larry D on Nov 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have the lights hanging from the ceiling so blocking/shielding the light from the sides isn't needed for me. Great bright light though!
I have a 28 by 32 garage I use as a wood shop with 9 foot ceilings. How many 4 foot fixtures would be needed?
Tim K on Aug 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My shop is about the same size as yours with 12 foot ceilings. I use this light over one part of my workbench for detail work. I have five larger lights over the rest of the shop. I would guess that you need at least five of these lights to illuminate your entire shop. I'm no lighting specialist; however, I'd recommend a larger style of light with at least two bulbs in each light.
How long is the power cord?
Mark O on Aug 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 6 feet. it is in complete description under Techinal Details
In what low temp will they not turn on? I live in Wisconsin and want to put a few of these style LED lights in my barn in place of my halogen
Sidney J on May 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not sure I can provide a solid answer as I live in North Carolina and it doesn't nearly as cold as Wi. My shop is 40 at the coldest in winter and they illuminate just fine. They give great light.
How fragile is the bulb if bumped. Compare to florescent bulbs of same length. Or is there a protective casing?
Richard I on Dec 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Light has a protective casing around the bulb. Not going to bump it on purpose.
