5mm Pro Shelf Drilling Bit
I bought this to compliment my Rockler Pro Shelf Drilling Jig which came with a 1/4" drill bit. When I first chucked up the 5mm bit and tried to insert the tip into the jig I realized that the tip guide was too big (.008 over) and did not fit. After a few minutes of light grinding on the tip with a medium / light stone the 5mm tip fit the jig perfectly. A hassle which could have been avoided if the 5mm bit holder had been thoroughly inspected prior to shipping.

Poor quality but inside.
Bit tears out melamine surface. Do not use for that.

Changing bits?
If you need to change a dull bit, God help you. You can take the old bit out easily enough. They supply an allen key. Good luck getting it all back together. You would think there would be some information out there in the universe, but you would be wrong. Youtube? No. Google? No. Rockler.com, of course not.

I need to drill 5mm holes for euro screws -- will this item work properly? All the description mentions is for shelf pins.
Frank P on Nov 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This bit is designed to drill 5mm holes at the correct depth for shelf pins. What it sounds like your looking for is a self center drill bit. They commonly are used for drilling pilot holes for hinges. You need to make sure what size screw you are using and get the correct size self centering bit.
