My blank blew out while turning....
My blank blew out while turning. I was even proactive in trying to keep this from happening and would turn it a while and then coat it in CA glue. Did not seem to make a difference. It has to do with the glue lines of the blank. The turning tool grabs at the glue line and rips it apart. This blank is too expensive and not high enough quality to buy. Spend your money on another, equally good looking, blank.

Same results as others. I'm very experienced, but while trimming the barrel to length, a big chunk of the walnut blew out. I bought four of these and I guess I'll try another one, but I don't need this hassle. Blank looks beautiful, but it's not sturdy, and I don't understand why.

Poor quality wood blank. I decided to turn one despite the reviews - bad decision on my part. With quality, sharp tools I was able to VERY slowly turn the blank down to size & shape slimline. It wasn't until final finishing that the blank chipped at one end. I cut the blank & tube shorter. During final assembly the other half of the blank chipped off. I returned the remainder of these blanks to Rockler for a full refund. The wood is overly dry and the color separation in the woods is poor. Not a recomended buy!

I had a large chunk blow...
I had a large chunk blow out while squaring the end of blank 1. I ended up parting it out and gluing in another piece from the waste of the original cut. Then ended up getting a blowout while turning near the center on blank 1, parted that out and used some acrylic to dress it up. Then finally a piece tore right out off the same blank I was working on. Used some of the shavings rubbed them down into a powder, filled in the hole and applied some CA. Bottom-line not impressed with these blanks. Don't recommend. Although it ended up looking fairly decent after A-LOT of work. Didn't help the pen I was doing this for was standing there watching the whole mess unfold.

I am an experienced turner and I blew out four of these. I used very sharp tools but it could not be done in all those tries. What a waste.
