Excellent Christmas gift!
I had originally ordered a Laguna, but after weeks of it not arriving despite their online postings saying "Shipping estimate 5 to 10 days", I finally got a hold of someone at Laguna who said the posting was a "marketing trick" and it wasn't scheduled to ship until around the end of January. I went back to Rockler and explained that this was supposed to be a Christmas gift. They made me a deal on their demo model, and were great to work with as far as loading. Who could ask for anything more!? Definitely 'five stars'. I gave this to my brother for Christmas. He is still stunned in disbelief. No regrets whatsoever. Rockler totally rocks!

Woodworking Experience:
So far so good!
I wanted to start in the area of wood working with a CNC, I just did not know a lot about the subject. Cory at the Rockler in Ontario CA was a big help. He explained the pros and cons of the software (Vcarve) and the CNC machines in the store. I chose to purchase the AXIOM Pro 6. This machine is at a price point which I could afford and the machine was much better built than the competitor machine.

I have now had the machine for about 2 months and it is proving to me it is a well built machine. I wish the work area was bigger but for my first machine and experience in this arena, I could only afford this size for now. Machine has preformed everything I want it to do.

Woodworking Experience:
Wow! Customer Service
I had minor issues getting things started. Setup was a breeze, it comes almost completely assembled. But I needed help getting my files to the machine. A 11pm email to Axiom's support line and I instantly got a reply, by phone. Their tech guy, walked me thru everything and even helped me surface my spoilboard as I was doing my very first project in the software. You can't count on that level of customer care any more, these guys go above and beyond! This machine has been the best thing to happen to my shop since hand planes. I've been using CNC's since the 80's and this is by far the best on the market currently, its all steel and heavy gauge interlocked aluminum. Hundreds of small parts made and my precision calipers can not find a difference in any. And the recommend v-carving software is point click done.

It’s a great machine but hard to maneuver with software. Will take you several days to familiarize yoirs of with everything it does.

Do you have to buy the v carve software or can youu use any software you want with this product?
joshua p on Jan 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The preferred software for the Axiom line of CNC Machines is VCarve by Vectric. For the AR4 you could use Vectric Desktop. For larger machines you would require VCarve Pro.
No videos of the operation of these machines seems strange in 2015. I am in the process of looking at five different models of CNC Router systems and yours is the only one without a video. Do you have training videos of the software to operate the system? What kind of computer should I use to operate the system, Laptop desk top? What system does it need to operate Windows xp, Windows 10? Can it run on an apple computer? I would be willing to buy a new computer and install the necessary software to operate the machine but first we need to know what to buy.
Joe on Sep 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Axiom is in the process of producing videos of their machines. Unfortunately they are not currently completed and available.

The software that we recommend for use with the Axiom product line is VCarve by Vectric. This is a feature-rich package that is also very user friendly. A trial version of the software is available from and the site also provides a wealth of video tutorials, downloadable resource material, and sample projects.

The VCarve software was developed for use on a PC. It currently runs on all versions of Windows from XP (Service Pack 3), up to and including Windows 10. The computer does not need to be present at the CNC machine during operation, the toolpath file is transferred between the computer and CNC on a USB Thumb Drive.

Since the design element of you projects can be carried out without a direct connection you are free to use a desktop or laptop computer, whichever best fits your workflow. You would benefit from a multi core processor, such as the i5 or i7. running at 2GHZ or higher. The minimum requirement for RAM is 2GB, but again, additional memory may be beneficial.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, Axiom now has a 4.2 watt laser accessory available for their machines.
how is the motor cooled during operation and is there an attachment to connect the vacuum hose to the shop van?
Joe on Sep 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The spindle is liquid cooled by an onboard system. There is no need for external hoses or other components.

There is an optional Dust Shoe (item number 58562) available for the Axiom Pro series CNC. This shoe is designed for a 4" dust collection system.
will this machine do 3-d carvings along with doing 2-d cut outs?
Randy W on Nov 21, 2015
Although i have only had the machine a couple of months it has been operating flawlessly. I have done both 2D & 3D carving on the machine. I now find myself creating projects just to run on the machine. The machine has some great features and their support has been quick to respond. Both questions i had for support could have been answered if I would read the manual but they responded in a professional manner.
It would be great to see a video of this machine in use. It looks strong and well made. Are there any videos available?
CHRISTOPHER M on Jun 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Please check our website or theirs to see their informational video.
We are interested in this machine. We have a home dust collection system. What do we need to order to be on our way to fun!? Wichita software, dust boot table etc. Router bits? Thanks! How much dust does it produce, could we just hook up to a shop vac?
Marcy H on May 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Dust collection for this CNC machine would use a dust shoe and a 4 inch dust collection system.

A complete system would include the Pro machine with spindle and the base. The suggested software is VCarve Pro from Vectric.

Your bit choices would depend on the types of projects you intend to create. Please feel free to contact your local Rockler store or our Technical Services department for additional assistance in determining your needs.
Is this machine manufacturer in USA??
Oscar S on May 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I believe it is manufactured outside of the USA. I have had my machine for 5 months and I am very pleased with the performance and accuracy. I am using the Vcarve desk top software to run it. I plan to upgrade to Vcarve PRO soon.
I have a job to build about a thousand boxes. 10X20x6 with box joints and an oval hand hole on the ends. My question is; Can I set up a program on a CNC
Pro 6 to build these boxes in a repetitive fashion (mass produce)?
Richard A on Oct 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That can mean several things with a machine like this. You will always have to load the machine with new material. That is really not automated. You can build a jig to speed up the process, but the software (Vectric V-Carve) can help you with repeating layouts and tiling. There are other functions that may help, I would suggest getting the new manual from Axiom to explore the pendant features that might help you out. They just released the manual a couple of months ago and it can be found on the Axiom Forum on their website.
which model or series of axiom is capable of work with metal to create module like faucet size ?
jaywong on Mar 7, 2017
Axiom AutoRoute 6 Pro+ CNC
Axiom AutoRoute 6 Pro+ CNC
Axiom AutoRoute 4 Basic CNC
Axiom AutoRoute 4 Basic CNC
Axiom AutoRoute 4 Pro+ CNC
Axiom AutoRoute 4 Pro+ CNC
BEST ANSWER: They all have the same capabilities. They are only limited in size. However, the most important thing is the bit, cutting speed (feed rate), depth out and type of bit.
If you wanting to do a faucet you will need a fifth axis. But, if you are planning on cutting the surface of the top or an escutcheon they will all do that.
Can a 4 basic be converted to a water cooled spindle after the purchase of the router model?
Ray T on Jan 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The conversion from Basic to Pro series is not possible.
can the auto route 6 be used to cutout and make end tables or just small crafts ?
reggie h on Nov 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am not sure what you mean by cut out end tables, mostly I would use a saw for this, but this machine is industrial quality with 2' x 3' cutting bed. It can cut anything that you would use a router for. I recently used it to rout dados for a corner shelf and cut perfect quarter circles with 20" radius for the shelves in 3/4 inch rock maple. Several passes with a 1/4" spiral cut endmill bit, but much faster and cleaner than bandsawing and sanding. It would work well for cutting mortises, although I would still use a tendon jig on a table saw for the tenons. It is also great for carving signs or adding decorative elements to woodworking. I teach general woodworking at a high school, and we use this machine almost every day.
Interested in seeing/hearing more concerning the 4th axis. Video demo?
doug h on Aug 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know Axiom does not offer a forth axis at this time.
Will the desktop version software work with the pro 6?
John F on Mar 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Desktop version of VCarve is limited to a working envelope of 25" x 25". The Axiom AR6 has a working area of 24" x 36" and would require VCarve Pro.
Where is this model made (country)?

Samuel on Jul 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Axiom CNC Machines are designed in the United States and built in Axiom's own facility in Taiwan.
